650/X-2 650sx ride plate and intake grate questions

So one of the members on this site is selling a bunch of 650sx parts. I am in need of an aftermarket intake grate and ride plate. I was offered an R&D intake grate and an Ocean pro ride plate shipped for $160. The ski is stock for now, but I will eventually be putting a pipe and some other items...

    650/X-2 rattles at idle

It cavitated really bad after installing the pump after the paint job. I wound up scraping back the paint near the seal surfaces of the pump and pump area. It cavitated a lot less, but has gotten worse over time. I will need to take the pump out and re-seal everything I guess. The pump liner...

    650/X-2 rattles at idle

Good to know. Thanks. I have resealed the pump twice already. I removed a bunch of the fresh paint around the pump sealing surfaces, but maybe I need to remove more and seal it again. I'll double check a bunch of stuff this weekend.

    650/X-2 rattles at idle

Thanks for the input everyone. This is my back up ski, but I do love it. My friends have nicknamed her the Yamasaki cause of the paint job. I dont mind putting a little money it to if I have to. I've had the ski for about 2 years now and it has always made that rattle. I guess I can start with a...

Midshaft housing is new. I would love a new pump or rebuild kit. Any suggestions on best place to get parts for vintage Kawi?

    650/X-2 rattles at idle

I've got an '88 650sx that rattles like hell during idle. Sounds like a dry clutch on a bike. Sounds like its coming from rear of motor or pump. Not sure. This doesn't sound normal to me, but it has always done it. Ski does cavitate a little as well. Suggestions?

Blaster Water getting in carb, any ideas?

Versi plugs should seal just fine when leaving your ski in the water for hours. The only thing you need to watch for with the versi plugs is anything that may get in the way of the check ball sealing (i.e.: zip ties or other debris). I've left my ski overnight at a friends dock with no issues.

Blaster Can I make a rear exhaust?

Not sure of the routing on a stock waterbox as mine came with the Riva. It appears some foam was removed from the left side behind the pipe. The exhaust hose then runs through an opening in the firewall on the bottom left. Then goes straight back to the rear exhaust outlet. Here are some pics...

Blaster Can I make a rear exhaust?

Mine came with a rear exit exhaust when i got it. I can take some pics if you need. I'm running a red pipe with a riva waterbox and the exhaust exits on the rear left.

    Blaster Exhaust Outlet Location

I dont experience getting hit in the face with my exhaust while boarding at all. Because it is on the side, what little water and exhaust is coming out while trying to board from the rear is simply happening just slightly to the left of my head. No exhaust or splashing water directly in my face...

mine comes straight out the back on the left side. Sounds great burbling just under the water line.

    Blaster Pump shoe replacement

there are 4 bolts that hold the pump to the underside of the pump tunnel. Undo those and the entire pump should pull straight out, shaft and all. Make sure the pump hoses and steering cable are disconnected as well. To get the old pump shoe out you will need a variety of tools. I had the best...

    Blaster Ported head question

I purchased ported cylinders when I redid my motor in the spring. They were done by a pro and looked pretty sweet compared to stock. Not sure how much of a difference they made by themselves (I also bored the cylinder, added two stage reeds, and milled the head for higher compression), but...

Blaster taking on some water, looking for some insight

definitely check the midshaft housing. Mine was leaking pretty bad last season. If you sit her in the water, try running your hands under and around the midshaft housing (engine off obviously). If you feel any water, then that's definitely a source.

    Blaster Tips for riding?

The only way to know is to try. Your ski needs to have some bottom end, but I would think it's possible.

    Blaster Tips for riding?

practice, practice, practice. You'll get it. The side mount is the best for deep water starts, but it takes time to get it down. I dont put my foot on the ski, but here's a video of how to side mount a blaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq2mYvB_Pio
