Are your needle and seats leaking? That would allow excess fuel to sit on the throttle butterfly and run rich until it's cleared out

Careful, I just pulled my impeller off by holding the drive shaft in a hydraulic press and then used the same for the midshaft coupler and crushed the midshaft as it is hollow! Fortunately the midshaft was worn and I was changing it for a new one.

Strip it all off again and flush it all through in a bath or with a hose pipe. Swarf could hang around for ages and then block again. It's an extra hour for peace of mind.

Fresh water or salt water? When you say no power, what is happening? Is the engine dying, running rough and intermittent, or is smooth but no power, like you are running on 1 cylinder. When you have no power, stop and lay the plugs on the cylinder head and see if they are both sparking...

I think you're coming from the wrong tack on this. The engine sucks the air and thus the fuel. All the carbs do is atomise the fuel with air on demand. If you take too much fuel out, you will lean the mixture and cause running issues or detonation at worst. Small carbs will just reduce the air...
