I'm not a welder but I do know that welding aluminum is all about prep. Things you can "cheat" on welding steel, aluminum will get you on. You might want to show the new shop this box and see what they say...

Instead of rivets you could use t nuts under the padding to screw a flange into. Could be a clamp type flange too that hold the vynil tight

My rok is great in the surf. Needs the front splash guard on the nose due to no bond line and foot holds need to come forward but its a super fun ski..can lay it over on the rails or have fun on wakes. Very happy with the quality as well.

If its just been sitting there un used anf this is the first youve noticed it id say its the resin not properly cured. Maybe you could brush a hot coat on? Someone else jump in here.

Do you use that yellow rust inhibitor spray stuff? Aside from that, is the resin cured? What did you use? Home Depot poly or good epoxy. Did you weigh and mix thoroughly or just eyeball the mix ratio?

All that foam padding the insulates your eyes from the cold wind...will fill with water and fall apart plus make you look like one mean gaper.

Do you know if it can go above 44rc? From what i can gather from google, thats as hard as 17-4 gets. Precipitation hardened seems much simpler than heat treatment for most other SS.
