I had one once with similar issues and it was the cdi. if you think its the ss switch, just unplug the black and white wire plug going to the box and try it again. it wont shut off if you fall off so you may want to lower the idle so it just dies

the old one I have doesn't have enough slop to just slide on a thick hose and have it fit together. you have to remove half the thickness of the hose, down to the reinforcement , to get it to slide in. I use the rubber hose, not silicone
