Why haven't we considered magnets? Have your floating marker stick to ski with a magnet. Magnet should hold marker to ski regardless of wetness but release when the ski sinks.

I was just talking with @waksk8 about this last night. How the pins are kind of counter intuitive to getting a good pump seal.
