I think your on to something there. I rode my buddies rickter with a 900 or something in it. Way more ski then I could handle and still have fun on. I prefer my superjet for what kind of riding I do.
Yes, listen to the countless people and engine builders who have said the port timing is much higher which is worse for low end. Its like asking a big cammed race motor to pull a suburban around with a stock stall convertor.
Smaller prop, more compression, more timing. All things that would...
We've all agreed if your taking that route then fill the tray area up with noodles or foam boards. That leaves enough gaps for the water to run down to the drains while still giving you foam to help float even if it does leak.
Not helpful when you can't reach how far down it goes, which is a concern here with our lakes. Also, if your in the ocean and don't have some way to mark the location, your screwed. I'd rather have it float so I can go get it.
Seriously?
Theres a great reason why a flooded ski won't float. Namely a few hundred pounds. Aftermarket hulls don't do foam to save weight and money and because...well I have no idea really. But its up to each guy building out that empty hull.
lol. Everyone with "smart" chargers that sense a battery. F all that. My charger is either plugged in and on, or unplugged and off. It just puts out power regardless of what its hooked to. Fancy crap is junk just like "smart" phones.

I have a Solas YB-SC-I in my superjet which is 14.5/18 pitch in good shape, will take pics tonight when I get home. Looking for the next size up which is the -J, or can trade it towards something [like a hooker 10-16 etc] with a little cash on top.
