Ok, now I am majorly impressed. I sent Jeff Vascoe (President) an email yesterday asking about the discrepancy between the printed warranty card and the online warranty. He got back to me a little while ago asking me for what the printed card said.
I told him that I am on business travel and probably would not get around to seeing my printed card until late next week.
Ten minutes later I got this response:

Wow, way to step up Ballistic!

Changing their website to match the warranty card would be one way to win back a little of the bad taste they have left with potential customers on here.

It's unfortunate that it had to go this far and that people at the company were unaware of the differences, but they made it right.

These types of issues are opportunities for improvement. Hopefully they take full advantage of this opportunity and solidify their policies.

Matt, I have been running a 16 cell all winter in my bob with TL. Make sure you stuff that charging port with water proof dielectric grease and cover it with the supplied rubber cap. Use the standard terminals to charge it. I havn't had any problems with mine doing it this way and the battery offers a ton of run time with the TL

hope this helps

Well this just saved me 200 bucks, I was going to get one from Steve, but got distracted by all the motor issues. Wanted one for my new ski. No way now, just like everything else, call me in 5 years and let me know how they are working out, for now I just save my weight the hard way. Going for a two mile run :) see ya in a bit

I'll be waiting to here back on the "updated" warranty info. If anyone finds out please update us. If the 12cell cant be used with T/L under warranty I doubt anyone here will be purchasing them again. $100 to save 10lbs is amazing but not if they are a crap shoot. Wonder if the bigger box stores will warranty them under their name. aka Parts Unlimited?

I don't need to loose weight. Let's see you loose 9 lbs

That's great that Jeffre stepped up to the plate! One thing to understand about ballistic is Jeffre has only been president of the company for 2 months. Maybe he didn't know the old policies

two batteries for one ,Yea ,they likely stepped up because of this thread, that is good for u Matt ,but I can't help but to think of the rest of the people who are not on forums who are having trouble getting warranty replacements.. how are these people not aware of the conflict in thier warranty from website to warranty that came with batery..
I can see them not covering total loss though ,this will likely change on thier new info with batteries..
Ii have had some of my odyessy and jetworks batteries for 6-8 yrs.. I will invest in titanium hardware to save the 3 lbs, because we know the gym is not happening..lol

I have good luck with them so far in fresh water . 12 or 16 cell seem to e best for us on tl . The 8 cell we only got 2-3 gallons of run time on the 1209 before it conked out .

The charger they give you for $70 is the same charger that has been rebranded by countless companys - its a chinese made unit and typically sells anywhere between $35 to $45. It's a decent balance charger buy by no means the best. I've had countless issues where it won't charge battery packs I've made for lights due to an individual cell having low voltage. There is a way around this, sort of like "jump starting" that cell. If your not comfortable with electronics read no more lol...

Basically the charging port on the battery has enough pins to probe between each individual cell - so if there are 3 cells, there will be 4 pins. Something like this:
(-) Cell_1 (+) Cell_2 (+) Cell_3 (+)
So if you measure from left (-) to the first (+) you will get cell_1's voltage. if you measure from the first (+) to the second (+) you will get cell_2's voltage... and so on.

This is how the charger gets feedback as to how the cells are balanced - it can then use a switch in the charger to either shunt or combine cells to balance out their voltage. The trick is to use this port to balance out the cell that is low with an external cell of similar capacity. I do this by using some individual li-po cells I've taken out of larger packs.

So what you do is find the cell using the common ground, and the pin its on - now you connect leads to those two pins. These leads will be connected to the individual li-po cell external of the battery just like jump starting a car - positive to positive, ground to ground. The host battery (external) will be fully charged (done using the balance charger) and it will balance out the internal cell. Leave it on for a minute at a time and inspect the internal cells voltage - I believe the balance charger's cut off threshold is around 2.7 volts... maybe less - you want to get it back to around 3.1 volts at least - then it can do it's thing and balance it out like regular.

This is a good way to help bring a battery back back to life for some more testing and evaluation - it's possible you just over exerted it, and believe me I've done that all too many times (once left a 50W HID flashlight on, face down on my desk, came back the next day and it had burnt a crater into it lol). Soemtimes you can revive it like frankenstein, sometimes it's a total loss!

I hope that ballistic is using quality cells like the LiFePO4 cells from A123... otherwise they are making bank for selling :):):):). I'm still buying one either way lol. Great to hear that they had some customer service, sometimes it just takes repeated calls to a higher up!

It's funny my ballistic took a crap on me to I emailed Jeffre and and he asked whats my address and sent one for free! I didn't even have the warranty on it!

i had great experience with there customer service. i had the positive terminal break after 20 min of riding. aftr getting back to th house i contacted the waranty number provided and within an hour i recieved a call back from the president. he contcted the place i bought the battery from, had them replace my battery and mailed me a 2nd battery as a back up. they advised me i should use a trickle charger (battery tender) and not a car battery charger....no problems since. i have also taken blue rvt silicone and glued the rubber cap to the supplied battry charging pins to watr proof it and keep salt watr and debris from arcing on the pin posts

My home away from home.
I'm very glad to hear they are taking care of warranties. At the same time I also hope they are talking with the builder about making them reliable, so they don't have the warranty issues. So overall, hopefully good things happening.

If they are sending out a free backup battery for warranty replacement (1 goes bad, file claim, they send 2 batteries), That kinda throws up a red flag with me. 1. They must actually be really cheap to be able to give you an "Extra" or 2. See #1
