Hurray for a lighten'ed conversion coupler. The coupler finally arrived today and I got handy with my drill press. Took off a good amount of weight from the circumference.

Unfortunately I painted the bottom deck this morning and its not dry enough to flip the hull.... so no motor work today.... =\

Do you think that drilling the holes will leave the coupler unbalanced at higher RPM's ?

No, the coupler had symmetrical divits in it at those 6 points in that exact size from the casting process. It may be slightly off, but not enough to ever make a difference. Perhaps fractions of a gram. BUT ON TO BIG NEWS!

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. Here it is the moment you've all been waiting for....! THE MONEY SHOT!

Technically speaking... the ski is done.

I need minor stuff like steering cables and what not but other than that.... not much else.
I just bought a superjet limited chamber, which should be mailed out shortly, and I may trade my charging flywheel for a total loss setup, but thats really all on my list of things to do. =D And yes I do plan on cleaning and powdercoating the bed plate.

thanks mike. I appreciate it.

200 views since I posted this and only once comment. I'm surprised.

Seems to me that I'm the first person to put a 701 in a 550 too.... Oh well.

Guess I'm gonna go start assembling the rest of the ski.

I have a court date tomorrow for "street racing" so If I dont post up for a bit its because I'm in jail for 15 days. :theyareontome:

Well ive only spent about $300. And most of that was in resin and foam. I'm really just conglomerating parts. Sure it may be just like an FX1. But its my fx1 that I built, and sometimes I prefer building the ski rather than riding it. I think the whole reason I started this is I finished with my superjet and I got bored with it. Besides, ive been lookin for an fx1 and I cant find one in florida. Meh. Suit yourselves. I know I do. :beerchug:

Hooked up all my water lines and figure'd out how to mount the electronics and cut up some brackets. Turned out decent, I'm going to go back over them and clean them up a bit more however. I had to rearrange the interior wiring of the cluttered ebox so stator wires and solinoid leads would be flipped, then I needed to mount the box upside down so Spark plug wires would reach.

Fits in there pretty snug and nice.

Also Just need to figure out what do do with a exhaust outlet. If anyone has something that resembles the 650sx or legdragger exh outlet let me know. I dont have any aluminum tubing to weld up my own atm.

All thats left is trim cable and mounting up my steering plate (which has mysteriously lost its nylon bushings.... }=[ ) Oh... and registering a title to it.

At least I should be ready by daytona for sure.

so... I got a bit giddy in this video but here it is... first fire up.

Video running

Its soo loud. My ears are ringing just from that 3 second run. The head pipe acts as a trumpet and makes it killer.

Hopefully my limited chamber will show up tomorrow.

Let it be known, I have pre-christened this ski “Frankenstein’s Bride”, and I hope we get to have the real christening in the W. P. Chain of Lakes this weekend…then maybe take her to Sebby for the REAL test! Krikon, I'll get it on vid for ya! I claim rights to the second test spin on it, provided it doesn’t sink on the first test spin, HA HA! Fox, I just read the link you sent me for your sj’s sale thread (and thx for this one too, lol), and I will shoot it off to the experts for determination of my wanting any pieces parts (thx 4 that).

Mark, he wants to sell Frankenstein’s Bride here to me I do believe (he’s the one that sent me the link to your 550…told me he would wrench on it when needed, so thank him for the introductions, lol). I’m going to keep holding out for Eddie’s though, since I received the first dibs spot just last week (we’ll still see if F.B. here floats at least, to be polite, ha ha). :sad6: Fox, why would I wish to buy it, when you’re going to let me ride it anytime I want?

Mr. Alabama – be nice to my lil college buddy now, or I’m bringing my magic wand in here next time I sign onto this site.
:wizard:<subliminal>(War D@mn Eagle)<subliminal>
I tell evb he can build a ski out of mostly vacuum cleaner parts anyway (he’s one of those decent Mr. Tinkerers fyi…I bet this thing is going to rock, upright hopefully… unless intentionally inverted).

Scientist. Thanks on the offer, I ended up just welding up my own last night. Its only a tad over 1 3/4", but Its all I could find. Hopefully it wont choke up the motor to much. I would have prefered a rubber cover but this is what I get. I tried to make it as low profile as possible since its going in the very nose. I am worried about it making an airpocket under one side of the ski particularly the tubbie and making the ski turn or dip like crap to one side in heavy carves.....

Suz. I said your gonna want to buy it. Aint no way I'm sellin this thing to you. Dont get your hopes up toots. :nana:

Now on to the question of the day... Bolts or rivits?
