lol, I have been so swamped lately I don't know if I'm coming or going. I'll tinker a little each night if I get off work in time but I have quite a few other projects on the go that need my attention first so we will have to see. Scott mentioned trying it out next weekend but I am so sick of driving I will likely stay home even if it is ready to go.

I stuck the midsection in the shed hours after receiving it and haven't even looked at it again.

I suffered a few setbacks last week including smashing up my truck so I had alot more to do this weekend than just rebuild my ski but I did manage to get it all done. I replaced the hood, grill and bumper on my truck, as well as reassembling my Matrix.

My hull is now officially a -2". Reassembly took a little longer than anticipated but I spent some more time on a few details and it was well worth it. I cut a couple inches off my pole, spent a couple hours with a die grinder and massaged another 10deg out of my Trim system. I also extended my steering cable length so I was able to get the most throw out of my quick steer. I tried to install the Rhaas motor mounts but the taller GP mounts were perfect so I ended up going back to them with no shims needed.

The rest of my time was spent replacing the crappy fuel lines I used that turned rock hard in 7 months. I finally went with all OEM lines and am officially done with aftermarket BS fuel lines. Methanol fuel is such a PITA and only going to get worse if they up the content to 20%. Even my fuel filters were brittle and the inlets snapped off when I was trying to reinstall them. So, my ski is ready to run as soon as I get some new fuel filters installed.

I also D-cut my shorty rideplate so I could access my trim adjust bolt without removing the rideplate. I adjusted my trim angle at Daytona without measuring it and ended up with it too low and driving the nose down which would explain alot of the riders comments I heard at Daytona. This time I used a carpenters level off the rideplate to set it at neutral. It was around 7 deg down at Daytona. No more eyeballing trim settings either I guess.

Hopefully this warm weather sticks around and I can try it all out this weekend.

Good point...so maybe the ride wasn't too far off.?.? Either way it was different from how I normally have it set up. I only rode it for a few minutes before smashing my leg and putting myself out of commision for the rest of the weekend so I don't even know how it was riding for them.

Boyer, did you grind off at the top of the nozzle to get more throw? l can get some more if l did this to mine. But clueless about the right way to do it.

I removed material in about seven different spots to get what I did but that includes improved steering throw too though.

I just looked to see where it was hitting and kept removing the high spots till I got what I wanted. I could probably get more out of it yet but I'm happy with this. I do have to clearance about an inch out of the rear bond rail but that doesn't bother me. Any more would be too much for my taste.

Got to water test my beast today and I couldn't be happier. The surf was minimal but I had one of the funnest days on the water in over a year. The ski is so nimble and responsive it really got my confidence up and i was charging waves like I've never charged before.

Other than getting 2" chopped off the back, I also extended my steering cable by 1 1/2" and got my nozzle to throw way more than before. If I hadn't chopped the hull, my nozzle would actually be hitting the pump tunnel now. I knew I lost a bunch of throw when I installed the Sato Trim system but I severely underestimated the importance of throw. I also chopped an inch off my RRP tubes and shortened it right up.

The first thing I noticed was how much smoother the ski rode. Despite being shorter, the nose took very little rider input to get down. Once up on plane the ski had no chop or bounce and it cut through the little chop we had today very nicely and it even felt more stable at higher speeds. I attribute this to the shorter pole and rider forward stance but was very happy to see that there was no loss or compromise in this area due to the shortening.

Once in the surf I couldn't believe how tight the ski would turn. Not sure which had more affect, the shortening or the improved steering throw but my god, what a combo. Scott and I swapped back and forth all day and they both respond very similar now. I had a blast today even in the smaller surf, just carving and slashing at everything I could find. I fell off the first couple times cause the boat turned out from under me so quick.

Shortening the hull is one of the best mods I have done to my ski to date. I thought I loved it before...well I LOVE IT NOW EVEN MORE!!!

Yes Bobby I am very happy with the new setup and even happier you took the time to help me out. I only wish I had gone with the -2" right from the start but it's been pretty interesting being involved in the discovery process nonetheless.

I think that this will drastically change the future of the Matrix too. It has always been a great boat with stability and ease to ride being some of the first comments usually heard so I am always disappointed when people who ride it would praise it but at the same time hold something back. I believe now what they were holding back was that the stability took away from the overall playfullness of the hull and that the Superjet was still a funner ride. I even caught myself thinking that on a few occasions when jumping back on my 07 SJ.

At Daytona, watching guys ride my ski back to back with Scott's was a real eye opener. They liked my ski but loved Scott's and I didn't blame them, in fact I couldn't agree more. I am so glad Scott decided to take the chance and order the -2". It made a world of difference to the handling of the ski and essestially turned it into a completely different ski.

Anyone that was previously on the fence and may have already ridden one, really needs to book another ride on a shortened Matrix. It is a total game changer and deserves another look. If you already were settled on getting a Matrix but perhaps on the fence about hull length, get at least a -2".

I would love to pitch the -4" hull too but will wait till I get to try one out. I am going to pull my hair out if it's even better yet because I know I am stuck with -2" now for a long time to come.

We talked about it a bit yesterday.

I already have plans in the works to meet friends from Canada in Orlando the week before so I will have to decide which is more important to me. I'll be honest, Wavedaze isn't looking so good at this point but if my wife can't get the time off from work for the florida trip then I may be back on for Wavedaze. To many things to do and not enough weekends in a year.

I was asked tonight if I had ever named my ski officially and the truth is I did.
I call it "The Darkness" although now that it's been shortened i guess i have to call it "The Darkne"

As incredible as this ski already is, I am still on a mission to make it better. Everything keeps coming back to the pump and while I had quite a bit of success swapping a Hooker 11/17 into the Mag pump and then into an OEM, I still feel there is improvement to be made. The issue I was believing to be due to the mag pump was actually present on my ski even with an OEM pump installed. Long story short, (and tons or parts swapping) I finally came to the conclusion that my reduction nozzle bore was too small. It comes at 82.5mm but is plenty beefy enough to be bored out well beyond what a stocker could handle.

This morning and I punched it out from 82.5mm to 86mm. The SE nozzle is so much beefier than an oem nozzle so I could actually go another 1-2mm if I really wanted to. I have plenty of motor and am overpropped enough with the Skat 14/19 that I don't see it being a problem

Here is the nozzle in stock form at 82.5mm

Check out how much more material there is in the SE nozzle...

Nope. You got a nice setup, there's nothing wrong with tinkering until you get the optimal tuning out of it.

I really didn't want to give up on the Mag so I am pushing forward. The two things that were killing me were still present when I swapped over to the OEM pump as well so i started looking at the components that I transfered to the oem pump. I was always aware that the nozzle was actual narrower than oem so I guess it was time to look into boring. When I asked around, I found out that just about everyone I ride with was already running a bored nozzle and had been for years.

Besides, it's about the only thing left on the ski that hasn't been modded.
