The SS865 is absolutely perfect. Not too much and not too little. It doesn't matter where you are in the rpm's, if you grab throttle it will hand you power.

We drove down to Florida last weekend and spent a day at Lake Diddy with Jeremy Parr and the creator himself, Bobby Howering. It was an awesome day on the water with tons of laughs and good natured smack talk. It was fun to watch Jeremy and Johnny work the Matrix and see what her capabilities were and get some more impressions for Bobby. I didn't have a chance to install the 9mm underpad in the tops of the footholds yet so they were way too loose to lock in a foot so the tricks had to be scaled down a bit. I was really looking forward to seeing her do a backflip too.

Added another touch this weekend. I have never been fond of internal fill and our ride on saturday sealed the deal when a buddy showed up with one of Thrust Innovation's Billet Fill caps.

UPDATE: I ended up trying a few different filler tubes and eventually found that a SN filler hose worked absolutely perfect. It connected up like it was made for that application and I can dump a full tank of fuel in under 30 seconds.

At first I was worried I mounted the filler too high on the nose but if it was any lower, the SN filler hose would have been too short.

A buddy had one on a new gen2 x2, seems he had mixed opinions about it but they do look nice.

Another great day in the surf and the verdict is in...my SS865 has too much power for the surf. And it's not just me, I was told this by two seasoned riders today. I always thought it handed me my azz because I don't ride enough but turns out it just pulls like a freight train. this is a good problem to have, lol.

Currently I'm running a strong curve in my EPIC so I am going to install a switch so I can go between curves and program a smoother curve for surf that won't wear me out as fast. The curve I'm running now is more suitable for clean surf or lake riding.

Still absolutely loving everything about my ski and all the little things just make it that much better. External fill this weekend was the bomb!!!!!

Switched out my OEM waterbox for an ATP Performance waterbox. Here are some pics from the install today and a quick video before and after to show the sound difference. It definately is a bit louder and the bark sure is sharp now. Both clips were with dry waterboxes so adding some water will drop the sound down a bit too.

Switched out my OEM waterbox for an ATP Performance waterbox. I needed some more room up front for fuel fill and breather tubes and figured i'd lose some weight at the same time.

They say the third time is the charm and I hope that's true. I yanked all my turf off again yesterday and started fresh. I didn't like how high the thick underpad made me stand, plus it prevented me from getting deep enough into the holds so i tore it all up and layed down some 9mm instead. I like the feel of it so much better and hope it resolves why my back always hurts when I ride lately and I can stop adjusting my pole.

I must be getting better too because I finally managed my first seamless install. Check it out!!

Have you messed with nozzle sizes on your pump? I'm wondering what size nozzle I should use on mine. I have the same powerplant and the same pump on the way. only difference is an msd enhancer instead of the epic

Try different sizes out for yourself. It's relatively cheap and the only reliable method to determining what size works best for your setup and riding preferences.
Example: Most people will tell you to use a larger nozzle. After some messing around with my own setup, I found that a smaller nozzle worked best.

Yeah I have an 85mm here and a stocker here as well so i can try those two. Don't have anything in between though. Was just looking for a starting point since the motor and driveline are nearly identical. Although hull weight will be different.

I run a Sato Engineering trim system which comes with it's own tapered reduction nozzle at 83mm. It seems to work very well and would be very expensive to replace if I did anything to it that I didn't like so I never bothered.

I agree, theory/what others run/etc. will only give you a starting point for trial and error with your exact setup.

BTW looks good Boyer. The best thing for my back in the surf was switching to a carbon pole.

Thanks Chris, how did the carbon pole help? I would think weight is irrelevant the way you guys lock your poles down tight.?.?. My handpole floats completely neutral with the spring. I just could not get used to the stiff pole and that killed my back even worse.

I've been playing with pole length just about every ride and nothing has helped. The only thing different between skis was the turf height.

Anyone who doesn't think the pad thickness matters should place a couple layers of scrap turf in the tray and stand on it for awhile, it's surprising how much it changes. Scott wants to cut down his tray to lower the center of gravity even more but that's alot of meat to take out of a brand new hull. I'm gonna watch how his turns out before I put mine under the knife again.

I hope you guys are riding this weekend, i have new turf, waterbox, finger throttle, turnplate and bars and am dieing to ride it again. It's gonna feel like a whole new ski again. :bigok:

before I had my first super jet I always has spring on it, i swear To GOD after a day of hard riding I couldn't walk next day because of my back, so i decide to stiff the pole a tiny bit so wont move but also not so heavy, I never had a back pain again, you get used to it, and you adjust the pole where u want a leave, is much better, it is a fine edge.

lets ride

***ATTENTION ALL MATRIX OWNERS! DO NOT LOSE YOUR HOOD!!!!!!

Another addition to the ski was to add flotation to the hood. We were tuning on the beach one day and I looked back just in time to see my hood disappear from sight. It floats up side down until the rear breather vents drop below the surface and take on water, then it sinks in less than 10 seconds. I bought a 5ft piece of 3/4" foam pipe insulation, removed the breather tubes and stuffed 2 1/2" of foam down each side. The breather tubes hold everything in place and I was very careful how I placed the foam so there is no chance that the pieces can move around and block off airflow. I can now fill the hood completely with water and it will float neutral with about 4-6" above the water. ScottS cut up one of those kids noodles for his and so his floats higher than mine so once they are in season again at walmart I may go back in and upgrade mine.
