Did you change ride plates as well?

Our whole family and extended family ride ski's. So we've ridden about everything and every combination you can. We have had a SXR for years, but always wanted a SJ for jumping waves. Last year we ran across a good deal on an 08 with Riva's whole RPM kit on it. It had their rideplate, grate, B pipe, prop, reeds, ADA head and air cleaners. It ran okay, but had no low end at all. Handling was fair, but nothing like the SXR (800 at the time). Over the winter we did an update to the ski adding the pre 08 steering cable, RRP steering/bars and sponsons. For the engine we stuck with the stock 38's (removed chokes), ported the cylinder and case. We also discovered it had the wrong prop in it which accounted for the poor low end, switched to a 10/16. We also found the previous owner lied, it still had the stock reeds. We added Vforce2 reeds.
First ride out the ski was darn near unrideable! It would lay over to one side then dart to the other side. People talk about the 08+ sometime doing quirky stuff like chinewalking, but everyone kept telling me we installed the sponsons wrong. That would be a disaster, but I just didn't think that was it. I've never been a fan of the Riva tri loader intake grate, so on a longshot I thought a more agressive grate might work better. I bought a Worx 228, it 100% fixed the issue. The ski now handles fantastic, turns on a dime and jumps waves like you're in the ocean. Everyone that rides it goes on and on how the ski handles and turns. I really think it would keep up with the SXR on a buoy course, but the SXR now has an 1100, so that ended that dream.
That's the long answer to your question, we are still are running the Riva ride plate. Some time I'll try something else just to compare.
