man, I feel like I'm missing out. I want to ride a gen 3, but the bob boys deem us Florida boys too poor to bring one to our events :p I've had the opportunity to try more ski combos then most people. My point. Even the same hull can feel completely different. The new circus freak is 10 inches shorter then my old badass. And I still want it even shorter! Try as many as you can and have fun.

One thing to consider when test riding somebody elses ski is the engine setup, a monster billet motor and mag pump will make a hull feel a bit different than it would with a limited setup. I had only ridden <800cc motors (a couple PV motors but no strokers) and jumped on a 1200 freak and really didn't like the way it felt. The power was so unlike anything else I had been on that it made the ski twitchy and jumpy and was hard for me to get a real good feel of the way the hull rode. This weekend I jumped on an 828 BOB gen1 and felt pretty comfortable with it. I only put a few minutes on it but was easily able to cruise around and do turns, never fell off, didn't really do anything I didn't tell it to. I wasn't flipping it or racing WFO but I think with a little more time I would be doing all the same stuff I do on my SJ.
I have no doubt that if I would have ridden the freak with a more mild motor I would have been in love, testing a ski with a powerplant more similar to what you are used to can make all the difference when picking a ski.

Where is surf slam? I see post and vids all the time and would love to go next summer. Are there any other freestyle meetings or competitions before the end of the season??

You just gotta spend more time on one. A BOB is a totally different ride, it wasn't modded from anything, so it doesnt ride like anything else. Like I tell everyone, you wont like your BOB at first, but once you start spending more time on it, you'll learn how to ride it, and you'll grow to love it. One of our guys at our shop is pushing 220, and he's been flipping 701 BOBs, because he's had enough water time on them.

It was designed off of a 300sx hull.

103_0003.jpgstr8huckin ,i ride a Bob and am in the same weight category as you (not a fat a$$ but a big guy).it is totally possible to flip a Bob with less engine ,i am knocking at the door of a flatwater flip off my own wake with a 771 motor in which i can nose in, but my goal is plate to plate. it has taken a lot of practice ,as the mechanics aren't as hard as some tricks but with a smaller engine theres still enough going on to make it difficult you must be spot on with execution, timing, throttle control but the fun factor is huge .as for the choice of superfreak or Bob its rider preference .the Bob being a short hull will require effort when riding probably more so than a longer hull .but if you are an advanced rider thats looking for performance it has just that to offer. i haven't ridden the superfreak so my comments are pure speculations, but it seems to me like its light weight attributes help in in overall handling and makes this hull preform even if the length is a little more and with a good nose design and good rocker application im sure the freak will also put a smile on your face.it seems that a lot of the builders latest and greatest creations are leaning towards shorter hulls, for example:rickter ninja, superfreak circus, wok rock r,foot rocket, kdx, qsm to name a few.bottom line test ride one (if possible)also keep your expectations realistic and have fun with your new choice.good luck shopping ,time to ride !!!!see ya....

What is the best am Hull for the Price, I don't want it to crack in the surf, but still want to be able to flip flat water? I've been looking at the BOB G3's also, but I am afraid they will crack in the surf. Would be nice for lake though. Never heard much about the superfreaks, but looking at Krash. ind hulls. I don't think a new rickter would be in my budget, but maybe a used one. Any help?

I forgot!
Well I guess its Belle river in July for me!! Thing is I ve bought and sold alot of toys in my life and i always loose cash on them, i had a sxr 06 couple yrs ago (based on info from a friend that they were more stable) and sold it because of cash problems,, now this yr i wanted another ski but went with my gut ,, because i want to do turn stabs, and barrell rolls and backflips too!! My 08 superjet is 100% bone stock ,,, and i love the way it handles but i also now know that no matter how much i modify it $$$$$$ it wont be a backflip hull!! So why modify it at all?? I have alot of options but i think that most of you guys are right, I should be patient and test a couple different hulls

What's your hurry? Ride your ski. Backflip it in waves if you got balls and learn to fix it. Barrel rolls and backflips beat the :):):):) out of equipment so get use to wrenching. Slowly build your skis motor and pump combination up and do the typical foothold and shortening pole mods. All the aftermarket parts will swap over when your ready to actually get a better hull. If your not rich, you can just slowly build it up year after year and buy all the big boy parts like carbs intake ignition and pipe. Then guess what you will actually know how to setup your parts and have a dialed in setup You will want all that for your aftermarket hull anyways.
