Different Kind of Build

Got the last cabinet built Saturday. Moving on now to hanging the wall cabinets. Bought a Huepar level and tripod. Only way to go. Went to Lowe’s, bought trim and screws to have on hand. Started the process, but found the height l picked (19.5”) was right over where a wire was run and nail plates installed. Dam things did there job! So l lowered the trim and bought a piece of 3/4” plywood and had two 3” strips ripped from it. l do own a table saw at home, but it made it all easier to fit in my van. The somewhat odd height l chose for the wall cabinets is because the granite counter top that is going in is more than an inch thick. So it will work out.

Mostly done with the wall cabinets. Lack one 36” bridge and then l can reset the 30” x 36” to the right of it.
Base cabinets are ready for the countertops. They come tomorrow for measurements.
The last 2 pics show where l anchored (5 in the floor), and 6 lag bolts into the wall, which has 3 2x4’s behind the drywall. You can also see where the water and electrical comes in that will go thru the knee wall.

Shower surround by Thermax-Glass. l looked for months for these type panels. Kohler, American Standard, and several others produce basically the same thing. But they won’t sell you just the parts. Ended up with this kit. All of the brands use interlocking panels. What l bought is made out of marble, glass, and epoxy and is 3/16” thick. Using a carbide 100 tooth table saw blade to cut. And surround liquid nails to glue them up. Should be finished today.

Next 2 pics represent a knee wall l had to shorten. A guy came to digitally produce the measurements for the countertops. This wall was too long. l had to shorten the wall to 127” so l wouldn’t have seam on the bar. No problem. The 2x6 you see on the floor represents what l cut off. Maybe in a couple weeks l’ll have some countertops

I used almost the same thing for my shower walls and so far im very happy with hem. They are sturdy, the panels lock together in a way that would not allow any leakage. Good job bud! Cant wait to come see the place finished up! oh... and uhhhh... RIDE SOME JET SKIS TOGETHER!!! Last time we rode together was Lundyfest, a whole year ago!!!

Got some power through out the building now. Just 30 amps, but that is what l’ve had all along. Powers all the lights, ceiling fans, garage doors. Probably can run some other small tools. l’m only putting 3.4 amps. And all the receptacles work too.

Nice! Its amazing what you can run off a 30 amp breaker. I did 100 amps for my shop , my lift and compressor are the biggest consumers out there. Everything else is led lighting and super efficient. Glad to see its getting closer to complete!

Do y’all some catch up photos. Kitchen is virtual done. Microwave is now installed with range hood going in today or tomorrow. l didn’t want a microwave over the range, so it goes to the right bridge cabinet and the hood range to the left. Have to cut a big azz 6” hole over it going up to the attic for it. Still deciding on a backsplash. Granite is all done. Just needing to add some support for the bar area.
Bathroom is further ahead then the pic shows. More on that coming soon. The water has been turned now. And we passed final inspection on the inside and outside electrical service. That’s a 400 amp service splitting 200 amps to both buildings. All of that was turned on Friday. Yesterday the hvac guys tested and flipped the switch on to the mini split system. The unit is so quiet inside and out.

So the floors are done now. l went ahead and made a punch list cause l’m getting close to the finish line. Base moulding, doors, and a little left on the plumbing. Few other small things. That should get a final inspection in a couple weeks. Then l can try to get my C.O. No doubt, they will find something to pick on

Last weekend update.Appliances are in now. Kitchen is functional, but did not get the washer/dryer combo hooked up. Will be working on that over this weekend. And my son made me a printed sheet of all the switches. That works so much better then trying to read some some old handwriting.

Hanging doors this weekend!

Well, you have shamed me many times with your build (for instance, I won't show this thread to my wife), but your labeling of your electrical panel really puts me to shame . . .

Quality shows. And your work shows it.

All on my son, his idea. Dealt with my old house that you could hardly read anything. Thank you for the compliment

Passed my plumbing final a week ago, no issues.
Now coming to a close (one can only hope) by this friday. Attic insulation getting blown in today or tomorrow. That’s all l need to pass for a house final inspection. Then my C.O. (certificate of occupancy) comes next. Going to need a paved driveway to pass that one. But understand that l can post a bond and that will give me a short period of time to complete. But at least l can move in.

Most of the trim is done, as well as all the doors being hung. That’s a ton of work. All the trim is painted, but the knotty pine doors are not done as yet. Going to stain and clear them. The hall/laundry area is still a work in progress. Bk suggested some flip out shelving because of the small space, l agree. But that is something l can work on this fall. Got my old Bose sound system set up, as well as the tv. lf you look above the tv, you can see the plug in is a bit high. Can’t move it, but black friday sale ( bigger tv) will fix that issue ;)

I'm fine. The dam upstream of us did its job. Just a few miles south is bad though. So many homes, vehicles, farms, and bridges are gone. Water got higher than I ever could've imagined. Brapperdoodle is in one of the harder hit areas. I did hear from him and he said they were okay but not good.
