DIY Total loss or MSD TL upgrade box 270USD?

to be fair the spark strength is mostly determined by the coil and the brain is just a switch to ground for it's primary circuit.
the firing/spark kV is effected by the air fuel mixture but the richer the mixture the weaker the spark, electricity is lazy so it requires higher kV to bridge the gap on leaner mixtures. fuel is a conductor and air is an insulator, lean is mean.
it would be great to run the brains on the same engine and rule out any discrepancies between fuel mixture, coil spark energy, and wire/plug resistances..
my brother and I could get some secondary waveform captures to compare burn times between an msd and zeeltronic, but it would have to be single vs single or dual vs dual channel to make a good case study. it wouldnt do any justice to the msd or zeeltronic comparing spark between divorced and married coils.
considering the stock coil I run my pdcis-01t trigger on + and not +/-, multiple spark events decrease coil dwell time and can massively hemorrhage spark energy shortening burn time due to the reduced primary circuit current.
a divorced coil ignition always has the upper hand in that respect.

I think you are confused between a capacitive discharge system like we are discussing here and an inductive system like what is more common among oem automotive stuff. With a CDI the capacitor is in the "brain" and it certainly has an affect on spark energy.

I would love it if you would describe in more detail how you are going to "get some secondary waveform captures" I could maybe learn something because I'm completely not following what you mean by that.

I'm also pretty sure you are confused about what the triggering on + or +/- means because it has nothing to do with number of spark events or dwell time, and in fact there is no dwell time on a cdi, again that is a term from inductive ignition systems.

you are correct, coming from an automotive background I have always treated this coil as an inductive coil. thank you for clarifying that it's given me something to digest!
I absolutely assumed my coils operated no different than the norm of my trade, so it was something i thought about during setting up my zeeltronic.. having 4 spark events per revolution seemed illogical!

as for getting secondary captures, my brother owns a oscilloscope with a couple transducers and pickups for diagnostics. one of which for low current can be used to accurately measure secondary ignition patterns. I'll attach a picture from a previous capture on my zeeltronic.

I have a stock 2015 superjet and a stock WB2. If I swap the electronics, flywheel and cover so that I can run the zeeltronics in the superjet, can I run the 701 stuff on the 760? If so will it perform differently? If this all works, why are they different?

760 and 701 use different methods to time the spark. I don’t know enough about this topic to explain it in detail. The stator, flywheel, flywheel cover, and CDI unit are all different. They do the same thing, create and time a spark, but through a slightly different method in the timing of the spark. However those parts as a whole are interchangeable to the motors. You can take a 760 motor and swap everything over to a 701 motor. 760s and 701 are based on the same platform.

I would recommend you just go buy a 760 flywheel and stator/stator cover to use with the zeel. They are cheap and plentiful. The time you will save in swapping parts will easily make up for the cost of the flywheel and stator.

I’m switching to msd TL on my 10 mil motor from a zeel setup. I’m interested to see the back to back. Might be a couple months since it’s now cold. People keep telling me I’ll see a performance gain so I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m betting/hoping it makes no difference so I can prove the zeel nay sayers wrong lol
 
i have a 64x ebox, flywheel cover and stator to run with zeeltronics. I just need a flywheel. I think i seen somewhere that a gp800 flywheel will work but i know the magnets are different. So does the gp800 flywheel work for total loss only? Will it charge or not work either way?
