DIY Total loss or MSD TL upgrade box 270USD?

Sorry just re read what I wrote and realized it wasn’t how I wanted it. So I bought a used zeel 760 full electrical setup. Changed the tune for pump gas. And tried it. The ski runs okay sometimes but other times it doesn’t run good at all. Will back fire and not rev out it’s weird. So we thought a coil. Changed the coil with no change. Than I did a stator. Which wasn’t a oem stator it was a cheap aftermarket. Worked for about 30mins than started acting up again. So I decided I was done with that. I swapped a full 62t setup into the ski on a msd enhancer. Since we thought possibly the carbs may of been funky. But it runs great on the enhancer. So now I have a zeel setup I’m 1k deep into and i’m trying to fix it and run it instead of the enhancer. The only 2 things left is the rectifier and zeel itself. The one thing I read is someone had battery trouble. And I noticed that my battery (antigravity 12 cell) cranks for like 15 seconds and dies. Why idk it’s done this from the start that it was new last month. And on the zeel it would sometimes crank really slow but end up starting still. So now I’m wondering if the battery has something to do with the zeel. While the msd goes off the stator power? And the zeel off the battery? I’m not super sure.

The stator charges your battery, the battery powers your ignition, theoretically even with a bad stator your ski should run fine as long as the battery is charged. This is the reason why you can remove the flywheel magnets and run it as total loss.
I highly suggest you try a new battery.

Also check your battery cable ends. Bad grounds? Bad terminals. If your battery turns over the ski good sometimes and other times it doesn’t you could have a terminal going bad. Pull and twist on them if you can break them that are trash. This can also cause excessive heat and tax on a battery when trying to start a motor netting you with shortened time between charges.

The MSD uses both the stator and the battery, the zeel runs only off of the battery, so as yamanube said it cares nothing about the stator and nothing about the rectifier, they could be completely removed and the zeel would work fine.

The Zeel does need the trigger to be good, it is mounted in the cover outside of the flywheel (so separate from the stator).

I've had no noticeable change in performance with a nearly dead battery, and the specs on the zeel say it only needs 7 volts. Maybe there is some reason why it affects some setups and not others, I dunno. You're going to need to straighten out the battery thing either way so you might as well and see if it helps, but I'm guessing you have something else going on.

If it really is 15 seconds of strong cranking....that doesn't sound like all that bad of a battery to me. That's a hell of a lot of cranking, if you have any reason to be cranking for 15 seconds you have something very wrong with your setup.

I've looked over Colby's setup. I don't think its a battery voltage issue. he can still crank it easily after it starts acting up (which means there's plenty of voltage to run the zeel). His ebox is clean and all wiring is good. he has a new start/stop. swapped coils so its not the coil. He replaced the pickup and magento so its not the pickup. I believe its likely just a bad zeel (rare, i know). The only other thing i'd check is the charging system is doing weird stuff and causing voltage spikes the zeel can't handle or something. The only other really unlikely thing is maybe the 3rd lump isn't ground low enough, but visually it looked fine.

Have you hooked up the programmer and tried a spark test or tried the "monitor" where you can see your input from the flywheel? The monitor will allow you to check your rpm and timing which proves your pickup is good if you have rpm and timing. I had a issue with the first 01T zeel I tried. Could never get spark. Ended up being a bad zeel. Spark test will verify your coil is good as well as output signal to coil from the zeel.

It’s intermittent. Spark test with programmer works perfect with good spark

The only issue I have seen with zeeltronics is when used the early pcdi 02ts and forgot to grind the extra lobe off. It freaked it right out.
it was expecting to see 2 lumps and saw 2 and didn't know what was going on

Looks like my 01T cannot read your 02T file. Opening in notepad they look completly different. Any chance can you do a screenshot?

Am I reading this correct? The timing is 34 degrees from 2000rpm - 6799rpm? Is this safe on pump gas and 170psi compression 701 bored to 84mm.
