Has a relief fund been started yet?? I haven't heard anything yet.

Seems like something like that would be hard to orchestrate as there are so many parties involved. BUT, i'd be more than happy to contribute if one where created.

I mentioned something to take those that have lost there homes and personal belongings into consideration in the "I sunk my ski donation thread" and got the almost, how dare I say such a thing response.

My home away from home.
I'm just happy you guys are OK. It sucks that there are ass hole people that steal stuff. No matter how big, or small the town, there's always a few losers taking advantage of a situation.

I've also wondered if the military will be called in to help out. National Guard at least? Asked my son in VA (Marine) if he had heard anything on helping out with the situation and he hasn't heard squat yet. Just seems you guys can use all the help you can get right now.

They better get some tankers with fuel here soon or get the power back on. People are getting crazy. Police are manning all of the gas stations that still have fuel left.

Definitely has me thinking about gun ownership. The looting is bad in the very flooded areas. People trying to steal generators and fuel.

i just saw police at a gas station, things are getting kinda crazy here.. hopefully power and fuel restored sometime soon..

(i also agree in the right to protect your home and family if things get real bad..) IMG01550-20121101-2051.jpg

Got a generator wednesday, Wow its nice to take a hot shower and have lights for a little bit. Trying to find gas is getting very hard took about the whole day. Things are getting pretty bad dont like to leave the house unattended some very shady people walking around my block ive never seen before looks like there checking houses out trying to see who has what. Damn generator is like a target But i have no problem protecting my property.

I had no idea the looters were that bad. Talk about people taking advantage of an absolute crappy situation. Makes me sick someone could see that much destruction and loss of life/property and walk outside and say, Im going to go steal peoples stuff.

Shawn that new inlet is unbelievable. The sheer power of water is nuts. Just moves all that land out if the way like nothing.

Here's a shot of long beach LI. That's supposed to be a street with the foot of sand on it.

The water line in my parents kitchen. They got the hot water heter up and running and a generator going. The 2nd floor had no damage and is clean. They are luckier than most around here.

Heard a neighbor yesterday that was out looking for his boat and found it on someone's lawn 4-5 blocks away.

Half those pics aren't mine. I pulled some from friends' Facebook pages. They guy that took that lives in lido beach.

It's residents only on long beach right now. Must show ID to get over the bridges and I believe there is a curfew in effect as well. Haven't seen much of the news but a few guys from work live in LB.

All that practice at unsinking jet ski motors helps out. I got two snowblowers and the leaf blower running at my parents house yesterday. Figured we need to be ready for anything. Who knows when we will get snow dumped on us.

They have the insurance adjuster coming today and started on cleanup the past two days. Hopefully they get the ball rolling quick and get a check so the place is live able again.

It stinks horribly over there though. I can just imagine what its like for the people with a foot of sand in their places on top of all the saltwater damage.

I fel bad for all of you, but someday I'm going to figure out how it's possible for people to develop an area that heavily in an area that can be wiped out so easily by a Cat 1. how do you not have an infrastructure in place that can sustain a hit from that? Cat 1 here in FL doesnt even get anyone excited.

Same reason the southern states close schools and businesses for a week with 2 inches of snow on the ground while 2 inches of snow has little impact on us here. It rarely happens so they are unprepared.

It wasn't the high winds that destroyed everything. It was the 14foot higher than normal tides. Some fallen trees is no big deal.

Up here in the panhandle it does, if we even catch wind of a possibility of a depression here they declare state of emergency in all near by counties, the shelves go empty and gas stations get low on fuel, its nuts. I just laugh. Hell, a few years ago when it still got cold here I remember we got a little bit of sleet and they closed schools and government offices. Thats the problem with the damn media, they get people so damn amped up about nothing, then when something does really happen no one takes it serious, its just like the boy who cried wolf, unfortunately were the ones to pay with loss of life and property, not the a$$hat overpaid reporters and meterologists.
