Hand guns

Id stay away from a hi point gun unless you just want the cheapest gun out there..and how can u have that spending mentality with stand ups as ur hobby? Do yourself a favor and buy a glock if you want a dao or striker fire trigger style..then digress to xd's and m&p's...if u want value in a 1911 i suggest a Rock Island Armory...next a colt or springfield then on to dan wesson and wilson combat. I also suggest sticking with standard 1911 platforms for SD and reliability for such uses. When you start messing with barrel lengths and recoil rod/spring lengths you begin to see reliability issues. I would never own a da/sa or dao 1911 for that same reason as well...plus at that point ill lose my nice crisp 5ib target trigger pull gained by the sa config. It is not hard to learn and shoot a single action 1911. With the grip and thumb safety it is no issue of trust to carry it condition 1. I feel much safer that way. As far as attorneys jumping on you for having installed a lighter target or " hair pin" trigger...if you can prove that it was done right and for accurracy or reliability terms then you will be fine in court. Words straight from an attorney friend and seen it work that way before. Besides....arent you more accurate at the range with a 5ib as opposed to one heavier...say my 12 ib j frame 38. For da/sa id say sigs or h&k..glock built the striker fire trigger system so thats a no brainer for sc to full size dao..kahr also makes a nice one the springfield and m& ps as well. For a pocket gun ill always prefer a lil j or k frame smith or ruger lcr revolvers...the standard for reliability lol.

Looked at a couple Sigs tonight but they don't do anything for me. Never had a chance to fire one yet either. They had a competition series XD 40 that was pretty impressive but well beyond my current budget.

They did have a couple sweet 22lr 1911's though. One was a compact version by browning and the other was a full sized unit that looked identical to the Browning. Didn't catch the name though. My buddy bought the same one a month or so ago...

Popping 22's is fun. But I'd rather do it out of a revolver or a MkII or MkIII.

1911's are for 45 or possibly 38 Super

Living the dream.
A company called Intermedia Partners is reportedly buying up pro-gun media outlets to dismantle them. They have purchased the Sportsman's Channel and allegedly are seeking to buy the Outdoor Channel.

Springfield Armory XDM 40 5.25 competition series. Comes in a big case with a couple different holsters, twin mag holder, speed loader, optional grips and 3 high capacity mags for under $800. It felt good in my hand with a good balance and I loved the fiber optic front sight.

In order to broaden my handgun experience, I shot a Glock 22 today in the .40 cal. I'm trying to shoot a different gun/caliber every time I go to the range. In the Glock, I had my choice between the G22, 23 or 27. I chose the 22 for the longer barrel and larger grip. The 27 was uber tiny, ended about halfway down my hand and would not have been comfortable to shoot at all. The G22 wasn't bad but it's a range gun so it's pretty worn out. The Mag kept dropping out and causing misfeeds and the trigger draw was way too long for my taste. It did shoot smooth and consistant but I couldn't find the trick to pull the rounds to the right about 6 inches to be on target. I put all 50 rounds in a 4" circle except 6" to the left. Perfect height, just 6" to the left.

The Glock really did nothing for me today and my Ruger SR9c felt absolutely perfect when i finally turned my attention to it. I am still about an 1" to the left with it as well but everytime I shoot I pull it closer and closer to the bullseye. I have over 500 rounds thru it now and it feels better and better every time I shoot it.

I went thru their rental collection and while it is pretty limited in quantity, they do have a broad selection of makes and models. The next on my list is a Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm that I will definately shoot next time. They said it wasn't popular due to the size of the grip but it felt absolutely perfect in my hand. I would have shot it today but they were all out of 9mm ammo and I had only brought 50 rounds for my Ruger plus I'm trying to shoot different calibers each trip.

A good friend of mine had a P226 a number of years ago and I shot it a bunch. It's a heavy, steel frame gun and I loved it. Fit great in my hand, super solid, very accurate. I pull shots to the left with polymer frames a lot more often. I know it's me, but I do not have that problem with steel frames. The 226 was one of the best guns I've shot.
He also had a P229 in .357 SIG. Also good, but the ammo peculiarity makes it a bit of an oddball.
