Can you elaborate on the process concerning willmaker etc? I'd also like to pick one up before things implode.

There are a few different ways to go about legally obtaining a Class 3 or Destructive Device. Asking someone that is purchasing their first one is not prudent imo. Contacting your retained defense attorney, local established retailer, or taking the time to actually read the BATF documents is usually much better info.

I wanted one before things went bananas. Besides, its not the prices that are going to get screwed up, its actually getting the paper work processed. Like Peter said, better to do it before the stamp price goes up. I figured by now it was too late. Since a 'forum friend' is doing it, i'd like to get his feed back on the process.

Many ways to do it. hope the internet friend chose what was best for him. There is personal, Trust, LLC and others. I feel not staying local is mistake #1. Guys that have done it more than once are better equipped to answer. Your retained attorney, as stated before is a very good source, and you guys that do carry and don't have a retained attorney might as well drop your life, auto and house insurance, same thing imo. After you deploy your weapon you'll wish you had one.

I just had the sheriff sign off on the paperwork when I got fingerprinted. Went well for me the trust route just makes it easier to share your items with others or transfer them if you die.

Sure would be nice if all the sheriffs and judges would just sign the Form 4 that easily. I'm happy to hear that it went so easy for ya Mark, plenty of county seats were they aren't so "warm" to it.

Considering that swap is in texas I would hope that would work for him. The trust didn't seem hard to do but since I didn't pay for the supressor or the tax stamp I didn't want to bother with setting up the trust. Been 3 months and still haven't gotten it yet so my advice is if you want class 3 items pay for them now and grt your paperwork going because it takes forever and the wait really sucks squirrel season will be long gone by the time I get my supressor. Also remeber to consider the cost of having your host weapons barrels threaded. Thats roughly 50 to 150 per gun plus thread protector caps and having sights set back or reset.

Good points on the wait time and firearms modding Mark. The wait can be very long even when no issues arise. Mark, it sounds like you went with a "screw on" as opposed to a quick detach. Worth the wait, you'll wonder why all firearms aren't sold with one.

I did go with the screw on gemtech out back 2d. So far I only have my ruger 10 22 threaded and they will let me use the supressor in their range so I least I get to shoot it somewhat. Next one to get threaded is my 552 speedmaster rifle and I still need to buy a thread adapter for my p22. I dontbthink buying class 3 is near as bad as ammo hording but its a long and costly process and if you want it you mi ght as well get start ed now so that you can enjoy it before it gets to where its impossible to get these things.

That kid got what he deserved. Thats what happens when ypu look and act suspicious people follow you and call the cops on you. Zimmerman wouldn't have had to shoot him if his parents had done their jobs and raised their kid right. We don't blame cars for drunk drivers why blame guns for violent people?

In my county, the sheriff won't sign off on any (exceptions to friends and campaign contributions I'm sure).

With the LLC, you have to file some paperwork each year to maintain the LLC. I'm too lazy for that.

As for the personal, as mentioned above, I'd have to move first.

So, for me, the trust was the best way to go. Not to mention, it's easy and cheap.

Keep in mind, that you have to spend your money up front, a long time before you get your toy.

Since you have to have the serial number for the specific item, ie suppressor, to put in the trust and form 4, you have to actually purchase the suppressor before you even know if you'll get approved. If your paperwork never happens, you are essentially out the money.

I spoke with a couple of local dealers who gave me some good information; however, what they would do for me was fairly minimal. Maybe I just called the wrong ones (and I did this prior to Wander's local suggestions). Silencer shop not only does a lot of work for you, they also have great prices. They are in my state, but 3 hours away.

I received the following email this morning:

This is a quick note to let you know that we have reviewed your paperwork for the following item(s):

Silencerco, LLC Spectre II with serial number SPCT2-XXXX

Everything looks great, so we'll get this submitted electronically to the ATF right away. You will receive an additional email when this electronic submission has been accepted by the ATF.

For many people, the best way to pass the time waiting for their approval is to just forget about it, but we realize that can be hard. If you do decide to check with the NFA branch for the status of your transfer, you can contact them using the instructions on this page once the electronic submission has been accepted.

We'll let you know as soon as we receive the approval, by both email and phone, so be sure to include SilencerShop.com in your safe email senders so you don't miss the initial notification. :)

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us - and thanks for choosing Silencer Shop!
