Hand guns

I'm so confused on this topic.
Going thru the whole permitting process with the intent of purchasing a "home gun", but I've gotten so many suggestions on what I "should" buy.
I would suggest you purchase a firearm that you can afford (time/financially) to train with on a consistent basis. Safe, efficient and effective deployment of a tool is far more important to me than it is to have what the internet says is the "best". Quality tools plus quality training go hand in hand with the "best" choice for an individual. Good luck. Edit: reading one book by Massad Ayoob or attending a "house clearing" drill class can be extremely informative.

All my guns stay in the safe. My preferred home protection weapon is this:

If you are set on a gun that you can shoot inside your house you either want a 12ga with low recoil shells. (Going to be hard to aim when it is dark and you are half asleep.)
Also when you are choosing a gun go to an indoor range and shoot it a couple times without hearing protection. It is going to be twice that loud inside of your house...

The course is shorter now isn't it? Mine is good for 5 years, but maybe thats changed too...
Oh and you have to shoot a little bit, just to show proficiency with a fire arm. Michael J Fox could pass the shooting portion.

We just have to pay in 50 bucks every 4 years once the test figerprinting and class are done. Glad we dont have to take another class every 4 years.

Guy mightve let you out early or it may have changed since 2005 idk as Ijust do the 4 hour renewal. 1 more thing, if you qualify with a revolver thats all you can carry, if you qualify with a semi auto you can carry either in Texas. YY'all get yours and be safe.

Our course lasted 5 hours and essentially you are guaranteed to pass both the written test and the shooting test. I truly believe I could have shown up without remembering to put in my contact lenses, had a six pack and still passed the shooting part.

My materials were sent in December 2nd and I received it yesterday, so it was about 10 weeks. I did as much online as possible and had my fingerprinting done ahead of time. So none of that 10 weeks could have been reduced by any of my actions.

I just hope I can get my suppressor prior to being put in an old folk's home.

I'm about to start my process Peter, hopefully I can use how long you have to wait as a gauge for mine.

Yeah wanderer, they recently (last Sept I think) changed the class duration.

I got mine 6 years ago. At the 6th hour the instructor said "if you're worried about doing the full 8 hours, you're more than welcome to stay and help me clean guns for 2... Or you can go home...."

That guy was crazy though. I found out at my 5 year refresher that he was giving out what could be deemed legally questionable advice/ education on how to handle certain situations. I knew it was a little heavy handed, it's very common sense to me. It's a huge responsibility, and it should be taken seriously.

Took the buckmark to work today and did the heggis flip to the sear spring and pulled the trigger and drilled and tappped it and installed an over travel screw. Trigger pull is down into the two pound range and feels sweet! Also picked up a fiber optic front sight but didn't install it today.

In iowa I had to read 5 pages of text, take a 20 question true or false test in which you could get 5 wrong, and then fill out at application for the sheriff to get my ccw permit. Whole process took about 6 days from inception until it showed up in the mail
