Hand guns

the dovetailed sight is standard on all brigadier (heavy slide models)...you are correct in that its way better than a std 92fs sight...it should have come with trijicons, but at least with a brig model you have the option to change them

if you think the beretta is nice, wait til you spend a little time with a 1911 like in ^ post..

the grip angle of the 1911 makes it the most natural of anything second only to the german luger

Well I sold my Ruger and am looking for another gun. Before I go and drop my money on the 92 INOX, what is a good name to look at in the 1911?

depends on your budget lol..

If I was in the market for a 1911 right now it'd be a springfield TRP..best bang for your buck..12-1500 bucks

but if you wanted cheaper the Ruger is nice, the desert eagle is nice (with the exception of the giant rollmark on the slide), cant go wrong with a sig either....both of those are like 699-799, the sig is 1k

im not a kimber guy they do nothing for me...

or, find an old colt.....new colts are not like old ones

find a nice series 70 and it will be something you keep for a lifetime

There are a lot of excellent choices. I chose STI for a long list of reasons. Other manufactures have a strong list also. The question is like the "what's the best surf hull" thread. Study the use able refinements of the 1911 over the years and which firearms have them. Look at how these refinements work in concert with each other for any given builders product. I personally beleive that a true 1911 (SAO) requires a minimum of biweekly training to be safely/effectively deployed, and I'm not talking about standing static at a gun range. Enjoy your search and end product, they are fine tools to be sure.

Would either of you recommend a $12-1400 1911 as a weekly range gun to just go and shoot 400-1000 rounds a week and then sit on a nightstand the rest of the time? Doesn't a $650 9mm Beretta seem better suited for such duty, because lets be honest here, that's about the most action any of my guns are ever going to see. I like the idea of carrying but I never find myself in a scenario where it's gonna happen. I would love to do some competitive shooting someday as well but that's pretty damn unlikely too.

I think the 1911 would be more fun and accurate to shoot. But 400-1000rds a week is going to get expensive. So I would stick with something in 9mm. Of course they also make 1911's in 9mm.

You should really look into a local pistol competition. Ipsc or idpa or uspsa . I have become much more confident in my pistol skills since I started doin idpa 3 months ago. It puts you in a critical thinking almost panic state and forces you to stay cool and make your shots count. Also helps you learn to reload quickly and minimize mistakes. I practice reloading and point of aim all the time in the house. Helps pass the time and helps out on the course. Plus its way more fun than just shooting at the range to me . Dont feel like you have to go buy a gun just tp do it either. Take that beretta and go shoot a pistol match and see how you like it. You sound like youn are really comfortable with it see how your skills stack up when you have 7 targets to hit in a timed situation

absolutely!

Thats less than I spent on mine once I had done some time with a few and knew EXACTLY what I wanted out of and in a 1911. I have seen more than once people with high end firearms Les Bauer, Nighthawk, STI, POF, S&W TSW, fumble, mishandle, cause malfunctions all day even though they had some of the best in the industry. Competence is a big part of the picture.

Started my auest for building my own 1911 this week by talking to a local gunsmith that buolds a lot of them. Told me I needed to go with a sti or a les baer and pretty much anything else was junk. Proceeds to tell me I should look at spending 1700 to 2000 to build it which hurt to think about since it blew my budget. I can pickup a used sti for about 1200 but I cant find one in 9mm which is what im wanting to build. This would be my priciest gun project yet but I want to make it happen .I hate having to budget and plan and wait a d piece things together and for what the frame and slide will cost me itnwill blow my sweet deal budget for the year.

Build your own 1911. You can customize it and make it as cheap or as expensive as you want.

Just wanted to share a pic of my brand new 1911. I have wanted one for a long time and finally bought one. I am very happy with this model. It has everything I look for in a 1911.
