@GIL I have a Ruger .44mag carbine from the 70's. Looks like a 10-22 with a big hole in the barrel. Given to me by my father in law.

I can't keep any better than a 6" group at 100 yards. I've tried 240's and 225gr even the Hornady lever action stuff with the ballistic tip. I just keep it in the safe, can't hit anything, even from a rest. Plus ammo is pricy.

Any suggestions?

You have a few choices. You can reload for it trying multiple different bullets until you find the one it likes best, or have it barreled around a specific bullet that you like. A good starting point would be to check out the Ruger forums and see what ammo other people have had good accuracy with. My guess would be that you would have the best luck with some of the larger diameter cast boolets.

Is it any more accurate with somebody else behind the trigger? I always let another shooter try my guns so I can see if it's something I'm doing or the gun itself. Either way, I bet it could benefit from some trigger work.

gotta load for it...

those are 3-6" guns @ 100....so, youre probably getting as much out of it as you can without making "match grade" loads for it

that sp is a sweet little gem..my buddy has one in 9mm

Honestly I got disgusted with it. It's a neat gun, and I can't ever sell it cause my wife would be pissed, but I have zero interest in trying to reload for it, and buying different bullet weights (pre made) at 25 at a time gets expensive.

I have been on the forums, not a whole lot of info... similar advice, try lots of loads/ weights, see what it 'likes.'

I haven't let anyone else shoot it, but it was from a fairly solid rest.

So it just sits in the safe. I guess if I get around to buying a reloading rig, I'll look into trying different loads and bullet weights.
But a "hunting rifle" that can't hold a 3-6" group on a rest isn't very useful to me, cause i'm a lousy shot to start with.

I'm not bent on using it. Just curious if anyone had any experience. I tried to sight it in, probably spent $60 in range fee's and ammo just for that. Then took it hunting, missed 2 pigs with it and gave up.

I may just pop the scope off of it and keep it cleaned and oiled in the safe. :dunno:

thanks for the suggestions.

Heck yeah!!! Sell it to me!!! LOL
You need to try some hand loaded ammo before you give up on the gun. I kept using 'factory loads' with my SBH Hunter last year and couldn't group for crap! I was ready to toss the gun and give up when a buddy of mine offered to load me up some HOT loads! Boy what a difference! I learned real quick that hand loaded ammo is soooo much more accurate round after round after round...............
(BUT, I really would love to have that carbine if you truly hate it)LOL

NOT criticizing in any way, but don't look past the scope you are using. Leupold makes great scopes-I HATE THEM! I can't get a Leupold dialed in on anything and for me, the eye relief SUCKS! Last year I bought a Burris and have loved every minute of it! The Burris was 350.00 vs 595.00 for the Leupold I could not make work. I have learned the hard way that scopes are not like vaginas-one size does not fit all. LOL

Maybe when I get around to reloading ill dig it back out, try to make it worth something.[/QUOTE]

Is their a way to ship live ammo and not go to prison? I'd love to send u some of the stuff Troy loads for me so you could try it.
180gr JHP Hornady XTPs
240gr JHP Hornady XTPs
320gr deer grenades (BB)
400gr deer grenades (BB)

I only shot 1 rd of the 400 and truly thought the gun blew up in my face. I used it in my SBH Hunter and it spit the pin out that holds the cylinder in place and then wedged the cylinder sideways in the frame. I'll NEVER shoot another 400gr out of a revolver. The 320s are fun to mess with people that are not familiar with the recoil of a 44MAG. I'll load 5-44specials in there and 1- 320gr deer grenade. Makes for great cell phone video. LOL They get real comfortable with the weak azz specials and then WHAM! It's great fun (until you dad does it to u)LOL

Nm my dads ruger is a lever action. Is that a semi? That would be a hog killing machine if it would shoot. gil is right. I had a lower bushnell that would not shoot on my 1022 but when I swapped it to my remington it hits decent much better groups than I was getting with the ruger. I always boresight and then final adjust once I get to the range. Try a different scope and see what yo u get hopefully it will bri g in your groups. Try a decent scope for a bigger caliber zo you dont lose your zero shooting hot rounds.

It's in the back of my safe. I don't remember what scope is on it but it wasn't very expensive.

Yes you can mail ammo via UPS. The box only needs to have this sticker on it.

Man those rounds sound brutal! I was getting beat up from 20- 240gr rounds. I am a little fella tho.

Not anymore! Orm-d is no longer just went thru this a couple months ago. Ups wouldnt ship it unless you are a register shipper with them neither would fed ex or dhl. Its considered hazmat and explosive and no one would ship it for me, I did t know until I tried every place in town and got shut down . If someone here has shipped any ammo in the last couple months please let me know how you did it.

If you search the ups website you can find where it is written that they ship ammo. The one time I have shipped it I had to take it to the ups main shipping facility. The ups stores around town wont do it. Also the new stickers look like this:

I think it came down to ups saying I had to ship it from a main office not a hub store , as well as being a registered shipper with them. It was way too much hassle. Also the s mart a $$ behind the counter asked me how I knew I was shipping it to someone who was old enough to possess it and I told him i didn't care as long as I got paid. He wasnt very happy with my answer, so thats probably part of why he made it so hard. They werent even real rounds if you ask me just aguila colibris which dont even have gunpowder in them just a primer.

click n' ship..

just bought some from CTD like a month ago.....had it shipped to my office for a signature, came UPS

Buying it and having it shipped is easy but trying to ship it was just too much hassle and im not risking losing my supressor over shipping so called explosives
