Hand guns

Speaking of safes, does anyone else besides me keep finding things around the house they feel all of a sudden need to be in the safe? I have rifles I cant fit into my safe because it is so full of ammo along with documents and other crap I decided I dont want out. Its become a catch all for me and I hate that.

What safe?

I have never been one to collect just for the sake of collecting. Everything has a place or a purpose. I think I am 2 guns heavy right now though but am having a hard time picking which two to sell.

Here is my motivation to free up funds...

That thing is pretty sweet, but I would def get a safe, even a cheap Stack On is better then nothing.

I am looking for one but like Mark just brought up, how big is big enough and then, where do you put the damn thing. Do you get a small one for handguns, a bigger one for ammo and rifles and then a third for documentation?

A recent acquaintance deals in safes on the side and is a reseller of old ATM and bank safes. I was picking his brain but he mostly deals in stuff much too large for a home unless it was installed during construction.

I would actually rather convert an entire closet to a stronghold than just buy a standard safe. If it was done right, it would double as a panic room.

Ammo is easily replaceable and how much space can "documents" really take up? I would say if you have 15 guns then you need safe that holds at least 25. You can put it in a closet or in the garage and bolt it down to the cement slab and/or wall studs.

The only reason I would place ammo in a safe would be to control it's environment. I get 5lb bags of desiccant from work that are perfect for keeping the moisture off guns and ammo but they aren't doing much good in the house.

Ammo cans are cheap, and stack nicely. I wouldn't worry to much about it though, I have bought some 50+ year old ammo that wasn't stored well and it still fired.

I got mine back in a few days shy of 4 months.

You probably had some cool person help speed up the process for you with the paperwork.

So does this mean that once again, Hollywood is full of crap and has given us a false expectation of what a silenced weapon sounds like?

My Spectre II on the .22 with those gemtech subsonics is just about Hollywood. Plus I don't have the FRP. Over course it is a .22, so...

My safe is a liberty 24 gun safe. Its huge but it doesnt fit my rifles welll. I havent forund a place to store my ammo that I am fully comfortable with. I have lots of it sectioned off into specific caliber ammo cans and then locked In the safe. If I had a place to keep it all that I didn't have to worry about I could shove a ton more guns in there.

@Peter123 yesir I happen to know a fella lol. Many thanks sir.

Concerning safes, I just picked up a new/used safe and it's HUGE. Lots of room to stretch in there. So all my guns are happy and safe. Plus room for documents etc.

I'm using my old safe for ammo storage. Climate control + fire protection.

Lol if y'all want to pull your hair out, look up the difference between Residential Security Containers & Safes.

Not a handgun, but I just wrapped up an AR build. The first one I've built from parts. In the past I bought them built because I was intimidated with the process etc. I haven't had one since just before Sandy Hook, so... Now that the market has calmed down I figured I need to round out my portfolio.

I haven't taken any pics, (I know I know) but it's a light weight build. The result is a 5.5lb rifle (no mag, no optics).

I'm really happy with it, just need to find time to shoot it!

So been taki g it easy today since my sis is getting married this afternoon then I get a call a few mi utes ago that my paperwork has finally come back. So I ran down to the gun shop and grabbed up my supressor and ran home and shot the crap out of it before I had to start getting ready.now her anniversary and mine will be the same!

You suppressor guys ever used the "dip" to clean your baffles? I tried it and didnt really have the best luck. I also read heating the dip up can help but I had it in a plastic bottle. Also my parts are aluminum not stainless steel. So I didnt want to leave them too long.

Mine has stainless baffles, so I plan to use an ultrasonic cleaner on them.

I need to read up on the proper use of a sonic cleaner for handguns. I picked up a Hornady Sonic cleaner with the gun solution but haven't actually used it on guns yet.

I have heard that you can strip the finish off a gun pretty quick if you aren't careful.

The sonic cleaner works wonders on jetski parts. :)

Mine were nasty probably about 200 rds fired thru them. I used the dip and them washed with hotwater. Then I U.S. d a brass brush and carb cleaner to get most of the rest of the crap off of them. Not really sure abour how ultrasonic cleaner work need to look into it.
