Custom/Hybrid Jloria's "Ah, freakout!" build...2012 Superfreak -4.3

great build so far. thank you !!! My build is virtually identical to yours, but I am not as far as you yet, so all your pics and tips are really appreciated. On the rear tow hook, one small comment, I mounted mine in parallel with the hull (yours is at right angles), similar position though. My logic is that the towing force is better distributed over the loop and the force would not tend to bend the loop, or strain the fibreglass in that area, or cause the holes to round out. It might be worth your while to swivel it to parralel, before turfing, but otherwise perfection and attention to detail is very obvious, very cool.

That's crazy that you posted that...

I was just thinking that last week for like the 10th time...I have seen it switched 180. I think it looks better and I theorized the effect it would have as well.

I have a small hump on my hull, so I didn't want to bust into any of the air chambers. I have never seen the inner workings of a freak and I didn't want to risk it.

I also wanted to make sure that my tow strap won't get caught up in the nozzle/trim area..I wanted it out of the way while towing...large swings, tight turns etc...

I am glad you posted this b/c I will definitely look at it again this weekend. I figured with the backing plate, I would be ok but would prefer it the other way.

***SIDE NOTE***...I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan when I was in the Marines and was fortunate enough to take a C-130 trip to Mombasa in Kenya. Stayed there for a month. Fantastic beaches and beautiful country...It was very surreal flying around the plains and seeing the wildlife. And let me tell you, hot fu king women there!!! We were strongly advised to leave the women, alone b/c aids was rampant so there you go...I had a gf at the time and I don't cheat so it didnt matter anyways...but I checked out the menu

I wanted to visit Cape Town and see the view from Table Mountain as the surf rolls in. Would love to surf there too but I know that there are some massive Great Whites there. Your lucky my man.

lnteresting indeed! Been wondering this same thought myself on which way to mount a rear tow loop.Perpendicular or parallel. Chad and talked quite a while and decided that either way would not matter as long as it had a good backing plate.

Maybe someone else with the knowledge can chime in.Or start a thread

Spin it 180. With the tow hook being parallel to the ski, the tow hook with pressure on it will force the hook against the hull which puts less stress on the bolts, plate, and hull. With the tow loop mounted as seen in the picture the tow hook could pull from the lowest point of the loop causing more stress on everything.

My problem is no room for the loop to be parallel

Although I would feel much better with it being parallel, I don't think perpendicular will be an issue since the back of your ski will sink in the water forcing the hook against the hull either way (as long as the bottom of the loop doesn't bend back). I would just prefer parallel if given the option.

Went out to the shop tonight...no camera, no pics

--cant flip the tow loop 180...i dont think it will be an issue

---greased up my x-metal steering...Surprised at how simple the setup is

---running silver x-metal straight bars with ODI grips...grips are not in yet

---had to grind the bushings down a tad on the x-metal pole to fit the superfreak pole plates in...I am running a kawaii style spring

***I purchased an extra x-metal bracket/holder. This holds the steering cable in place. There is an identical hole on the other side, so that it can be used for a kawaii setup. That's what I was told.

I bought the extra one as a spare.

My question is this:

Does anybody use one on the kawaii side to guide other cables? I was thinking mainly the throttle cable if it would fit.

This is the piece that I am referring to:

You don't want to "fix" the throttle cable to the top of the pole. The throttle cable needs to be run down the middle of the pole and be allowed to move with the steering

x2^^^ If it ever were to kink and bind in there, it could pull the throttle when you turn the bars. Not good... let it float.

Build is looking great BTW!!! Also, I have run a tow loop in the position similar to how you mounted it - on both SJ's and my freak, no issues.

Thanks man...Yeah it looks like I will keep in there. It's sits better there and with the backing plate...I shouldnt have much on issue.

The glass or bolts will fail before the loop fails...

We me briefly in Daytona if I remember correctly...I asked about your pole spring setup if my memory serves me correctly...

Could be totally wrong though!...I talked to a bunch of freak owners and looked at setups all weekend

After taking a 2nd look, I just leave it off and keep it as my spare.

Thanks...Is your ski apart? Are you doing some upgrades to it?

New battery cables, battery hold down, limiting strap, MSD enhancer, JSS coil, 85mm 62t reduction nozzle, and considering throwing my mag pump in there. I also sold my car and have no hitch to tow the ski now so I'm out for a little bit.
