Surfriding Kevins Area 51 super surf hull TWEEKER X-TREME build ....... maybe

I really need to learn to multi quote . I'm still deciding on some things with the surf build . I'm not that far out for a functional test a way s out for a finished product . I have decided to do a few more things refer to post above . Ordered some material this week epoxy etc. A free bump for WAB ( Call him at 912-BR549 for all your insurance needs ) he gives away 5 yds of 14 oz 8hs cloth for every potential client . Hope to finnish by fall surf season. Have faith fellow X-ers

I have to several irons in the fire so progress is slow. It's still in the works. I feathered he edges of the bond area this week . Hope to start cutting the tray area this week. Decided to lower it a few inches. Also lowering the exhaust . Did I mention I hate Scot S for insisting these items be done.

Super freak taking a little time as well. Low on funds .... low on time. Stay tuned.

Well it's been a while since I have posted . I have finished all my community service and am off the work release program not to mention it's BELOW 98 FREAKIN DEGREES ! Fall is here , so it's back to work.

Yesterday I sanded and prepped the bond rail area ( this is a redo ) thanks to Scott S . He did a bond rail mod . After riding it he called and said , " it was simply Fabulous" , " a must do " . He considered it the feel good mod of the summer . Well ... thats not exactly what he said , I digress . Any way I decided I'd do the same so here is the preliminary foam work.

Pic 1. Pink foam cut . Notice the routed groove this allows the edge to mate flush with the deck other wise you will have a void or a lump or something half ass. All i know is it took a extra 30 min to do it right.

Pic 2. Screwed them down to the bottom deck used a thin 1/4 inch lath strip as a backer . Cut it at 15 degrees with a Bosh jig saw . The reason I picked 15 is because um um um hgh r um it's my favorite number ... ol lucky 15 . Seriously, it is my favorite number . I lucked out using that particular saw because it gave me almost exactly what I was looking for . Wanted 2 1/2 but got 2 3/4 .... I'll hit the easy button and take it .

Pic 3. Side view .... well thats it , just a side view

I will say most measurements are a feel thing . I started with my first angle at 45 degrees ... It' s my second favorite number however , It looked to shallow . The next setting was 15 cut a test piece and it just looked better. I'm leaning toward things that may tighten up the handling a bit . My feeling is It may be a little loose if anything. Shaping blending the edges tomorrow hopefully glassing this week end.

Thanks and much hate to Scott S for giving me his double top secret bond rail mod method . It's really not bad and would be easer on a hull than was bonded together. Something to think about over the winter . He seriously did say Fabulous .

Super Fabulous! (there, I said it. Not that there's anything wrong with that) I like the wide rails, but have a question that may lead you into a perplexed state in contemplation of more changes. How deep will the rails be, and will they taper from front to back?

So what exactly is the point of the super wide bond rail? Is it just more stability or is there more to it? I know you guys don't do rail tricks...

The bond rail widening helps stability in the SURF. I don't know if this is a mod that will make a difference for you flat water guys. I don't ride flat water, don't know how, don't care too, I'm blessed to have the ocean 20 miles from home, so it's hard to get into the flat water thing.

That being said, the wide bond rails really make a big difference in the stability, especially in the white water. Guys that have ridden it say the mod makes the ski feel lighter (until they help carry it out of the water) when riding. It's much easier to ride and less tiring. I got the idea when I noticed almost all of the aftermarket skis have wide rails. I think Kawi started it with the wide bond rails on the SXR. I'll start a build thread.

My boat will be headed to savannah soon for this mod...scott just LMK when I can drop it off :)

Might have some foam jigs to bring down next week if they survive the lay up process .
