Did some more work today.
After I completely defoamed and had the exhaust and both footholds removed, I am at 111.5lbs. Much better.
I think I can come in at 120, which isn't too terrible I suppose.

The tray looks a bit scary now, but I decided I want to piece it back together as one strong piece, reinforced front and back, and then put it back on the hull.

Matt, its too bad someone has not pulled molds of the entire area there for just that reason, if I knew how perhaps I could do that before cutting into mine.

Did some more cleaning up. Pulled everything but the driveshaft tube and cleaned up as best as I could.

So is it bonded here, perhaps a singe cut down the middle first then all the way around. I may want to open mine up also, but want to be able to reinstall the sections.

Yes, that's where it is bonded, but the foam all over inside glues everything together.
It should be much easier on a ski without footholds.

I've decided a route for flotation.
I will be reinforcing the entire rear section with carbon/kevlar for strength.
Any exposed bondline will get 5200 in it, as will all inserts and tubes.
The Pump inserts will be glasses over. (This was my main source of leaks)
I will not use expanding foam, but rather sheets of polystyrene that I will fit as tight as I can and sand to shape.
It will not absorb water and allow some small drain channels for water to go to the bottom.
I will install drain plugs on both sides to allow that water to drain, if any.
The polystyrene will not provide strength - it's function is simply emergency flotation in the unlikely event of hull breach.

I forgot!
Can that whole area be cut and pulled up as one piece?

you can cut the tray out and remove it as one piece, its a snap, just don't cut in deep above the pump area, fold the sides in and pop it out, the foam didn't stick to mine.

Driveshaft tube is solid, no spinning.
I might get some work done tonight.
I have to clean up the pieces I cut out and maybe start sanding. I want to cut the back.

I was going to use a stock hood and modify it (lower it).
However, I decided to go a different route and bought a used WDK Diablo hood.
I am still going to finish the stock hood though. At the very least, I will repair a crack and put a new liner in it. I have a stock pole that needs to be fixed and a stock nosepiece.
I guess I'll keep that setup around in case money gets tight and I sell the good stuff. You never know.

But, time permitting, I am planning on still lowering the hood & making it look good. It will get a homemade lightweight liner and carbon/kevlar reinforcement.
If I will be reasonably happy with it, I'll just run it and sell the Diablo.
We'll see how it turns out.

Got my carbon/kevlar fabric from Fiberlay yesterday, getting the 3 gallons of resin tonight.

Figured I'd post some more plan details.

The front exhaust will go. With my XMW waterbox, the ski is obnoxiously loud. I am not getting rid of that waterbox, so the front exhaust is gone.
Besides, I can now do nice tailstands without a f/e, so I don't care anymore.
Good thing I saved the front piece of Tubbie II I cut off.

I will be running a 61X big bore cylinder next season, ported by someone other than myself. That's a first.
Maybe it'll last longer. :haha: :nutkick:

The single carb is going to change into dual 48 Full Spectrums. :Banane26:
That means my single intake conversion will be up for sale. ::deal:

That also means I'll be looking for a carb for the Square.

I already have the topend. I don't know who ported it. Looks like a pretty standard rec portjob.

Got some more stuff done.
I got all the Bostik glue off the Tubbies so I can make them look nice finally.
Got the front exhaust out.
And, the big moment....I cut the rear, 2 inches. Prior to cutting that, I removed the rear inserts for the rideplate so that I can glass them back into a different spot.

1.) I like more power
2.) Those full specs never need adjusting
3.) I like more power
I'm going out on a limb here, but I would guess he wants more power.:bananalama:
