Msd enhancer vs protec modded cdi

Things to test next;
- multiple unmodded stock CDI's
- different 62T flywheel than my current beat up one
- 61X stator/flywheel with 62T CDI
- 62T stator/flywheel with 61X CDI

Any other ideas?

I would be interested to know the timing & voltage variances between a stock 61X or 62T flywheel compared to a few aftermarket aluminum charging flywheels. The stock flywheels use four arc segment type magnets compared to the thinner eight or twelve flat round disc type magnets utilized in most aftermarket aluminum charging flywheels. I know the arc segment type magnets have a stronger radial through magnetized pattern and the flat round disc type magnets are weaker with straight through pattern that's parallel to the thickness.

So what 62t had the better timing curve? The one with a stator that bolts on the cover or the one that's bolts to the motor?

The one that bolts to the front cover is a 64X not a 62T. I don't have all the necessary components on hand to mock that up.

They pulled it off the market. No offense to atp but they were hit or miss in terms of reliability.

It's crazy that there is not one reliable and adjustable aftermarket cdi available for the 701.

I know it's sad. I wish someone would. They would corner the market. I've been through a couple enhancers and have a hx3 that's trash

I have and it has been accurate.

No issues and I have one that has been on a ski since 2000 and never every failed. 17 years of operation (GROUNDS and disconnect the battery are key)
That is amazing ! What's the deal with disconnect the battery vs disconnect the brain via a plug in switch ?

Just curious but has the actual spark energy strength of the enhancer ever been tested by anyone? They say it produces a hotter spark than stock. I imagine you could open a plug gap way huge and see if it arcs like ATP did on one of their videos for their ignition

We've had people on here talk about how the MSD allows a normal spark plug gap with higher compression where as the normal coil requires smaller gaps in the .020" range according to TNT.

I've had an Enhancer that would spark but was killing the spark energy somehow and the ski wouldn't run. Swapped in a stock CDI, ski ran great, sent the MSD to OCD and he confirmed, the spark was much weaker than a stock CDI in the same environment.
My guess would be, this happened gradually over time, maybe by some sort of internal corrosion? It's very likely there could be tons of them out there similarly decreasing in output. Just my theory.

I don't think it's internal corrosion, it's usually internal ground tracking. When you crank it plug caps off or run to much gap it over loads some of the internal components and they arc to ground internally. Each time that happens they leave an etch. You know like when you touch battery terminal with something on it sparks leaves a mark. Well each time it ground tracks internally those marks build up and over time it becomes the lease path of resistance.

Be interesting if the company Arieltek that sells the CDI's on ebay could make a batch with a custom curve. Assuming they would be any good and last more then a few rides..
