Super Jet Project Dance-floor

@Sanoman I weighed the hull with what is pretty much all of the hardware installed. I added a little bit of weight since I haven't reinforce the engine bay or stitched the tray in. She weighs 127 pounds without the hood 138 lb with hood. Those weights include untrimmed tubes and a little bit of buffer so I might come out under that.

The complete weight should be pretty close to a stock superjet with an unmodified Hood I suspect.

Looking for someone to sanity check me before I start closing the tray up.

Things I have done:
I have reinforced the lower tray and the rear of the firewall, as well as the pump tunnel.

I have pre cut the holes for the tubes and will trim the tubes after they cure.

Things to do:
5200 ride plate inserts. How do you guys do it? I was thinking teflon tape on the bolts (thanks @Carrera911)

Glue PVC together for scupper tube

5200 all tubes and joints after scuffing with 40 grit.

Make a pad out of 5200 for the one way valve, gluing it to the floor.

5200 around the one way valve bolts to keep them from backing out.

Make 5200 ramps at the rear to meet tray drains flush.

I have 5200 one week cure. Is that before It sees water or do I need to walk away from the ski for a whole week?

Missing anything?

Things Im not sure about:
Two part foam or no two part foam.... I was planning on using the lowes foam for a majority of the tray. To keep the tray area a bit more solid however I am thinking about pouring two part in between the home depot foam and tray floor, however the home depot foam will be covered in painters plastic to ensure no, or very little two part foam makes it into the lower section. It would be about a quarter inch of two part foam in spots, just enough to fill the gaps but hopefully not enough to waterlog bad. My main goal would be to brace the floor and put the blue foam under a bit of tension so maybe it takes some of the load of me standing on it and its not just the fiberglass. Thoughts?

How much glass to stitch it in.... The plate I made is 2 layers of 6 oz, 2 layers of 1708 and one layer of 17 oz biax. Fairly beefy and much thicker than stock but definitely needs more. Would a strip of 1708 along all the edges and another full size piece covering the entire tray and gunwales be enough or do you think two layers is more appropriate? Additionally two layer of 17oz biax without mat is also an option.

Thank you all for any input.

5200- make sure the humidity stays high during the cure cycle. Mist with water if you have to on any day after day one.
The tray, just use the blue foam, it's a puzzle but worth it. That said I liked your idea of using a two part foam only just to firm up the top of the tray .
I say throw down some wide tape to hold the tray peice in place . And then a layer of 17oz biaxe over everything. Filling and bridging with microfibers

I'm working on the hood this weekend. I installed the fire extinguisher bracket in the hoodliner. I also mocked up where the hoses are probably going to be, they would both sit between the engine and gas tank.

I'm debating as to whether I should glue the hood liner in or fiberglass the hood liner in. The part came out good enough where I can just glue it in with epoxy glue and it would be fine i think.

Additionally im thinking about getting a small pelican case just big enough for a phone/paperwork/tobacco and bolting it through the liner like the fire extinguisher bracket, possibly above the head or gas tank.

Any thoughts are welcome.

I cut the Breather holes in the bottom corners. The holes are pretty close to 2 in, but I'm not sure if it will breathe enough near the Dash, it constricts down a bit.

Are those 2 holes going to be your only holes?

It would be nice and sleek if they were but if it constricts I will add some more holes. It will partially depend on if I can find a breather pole before her maiden voyage. The holes themselves are plenty large enough, its the flat area of the hood seal area that constricts down the orifice.

I didn't get much done today, real life got in the way.

I did get my storage box mounted, it will clear by about a half inch. I checked on my assembled Square nose.

I have to make one more order with US composites to finish the ski. Im going to place it tomorrow so next weekend can be a fiberglass marathon.

Love the dry box idea. Now you just need a storage compartment for a cold tallboy

You think a fire extinguisher is going in the yellow tube? They dont even make extinguishers that fit them anymore, but 3 beers fit.

In all seriousness, if anyone has a source for a fire extinguisher that fits that tube let me know, this one expired in 99.

I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in my hood to mount one, plus the dead weight and unnecessary hassle. If the fun police hassle me too much, I'll get the smallest cop out I can find. Something like https://www.amazon.com/FIAFESA5-Ext...4&s=gateway&sprefix=b-1+fire+,aps,165&sr=8-21 . I'd like even smaller but this is the best I can find. Maybe you can use this and keep a beer in the tube. Tell them you have to have it so the extinguisher wont slide around.

In all seriousness, I checked and technically it's supposed to meet the B-1 requirement. But honestly I don't think the average cop would know the difference or care really.

I make a yearly trip to visit my father in Parker AZ and he said the fun police are pretty nutty down there. He kindly asked me to always have an extinguisher and paperwork because of it so I am obliging.

Whats the B1 requirement? Is that the class of extinguisher?

Yeah, I was wondering if there was some kind of requirement, and sure enough there is. Still I'm not sure if they'd know that technicality. My go to is "sorry the previous owner had it like this" and then "I'm not really educated on these skis and didn't see a spot to put one". ;) Which is true because I don't have one.
