Speed-o-Meter on iphone is what I use, works perfectly.

Sounds like you have lots more power in there as you dial it in, does it feel rich at the bottom end?

It runs great but does feel like theres more power to be had. I checked the plugs, but if anything, it looks more on the lean side. I checked over at another forum and a local guy watrboy33 seems to have changed his main jet to 130.

The ski ran like a champ. Hit hard and was fast. I ran into Brandon from Havasu Watercraft Salvage, he needed to borrow a screw driver from me. I let him take the ski for a spin. He thought it was pretty dialed in and commented the bottom end was great. His only recommendation was to make the steering a bit faster.

Now it was low tide that afternoon. Brandon never returned my screw driver. I drove around the island (Fiesta Island for those who know San Diego) and found Brandon...

Oh crap!!

With the low tide, there was ultra soft sand/ dirt... and sink hole! Notice the trailer, or the lack there of?

Back to my ski and some tech specs:

I put a Tiny Tach on the ski and it was running top end at 7450 rpm, occasionally hitting 7500.

I used the the GPS speedometer iPhone app that SuperJetJim mentioned. I double bagged my iPhone and put in some foam in the outer bag. I got the ski to 58 MPH. I used the app on two different cars and it shows 2 miles per hour less than car speedo.

So 7450 RPMs, 58 MPH. Using hooker 14.5-17.5 prop on Solas Mag pump. Stock Kehin carbs with choke still installed and stock jetting. 3 degree advance from temp switch sensor. Ocean Pro 31cc dome head (91 octane)

Any thoughts or suggestions? Motor does get pretty hot when running at full throttle for long periods. Much cooler running around at idle (2200 rpm).

Should I put on the R&D advance plate or am I asking for trouble? Maybe slightly higher pitch prop?

Sounds like your numbers are pretty much were they should be. You aren't going to get much more with stock carbs. We run the timing advane on all of ours without issue, even turning more rpm. Just make sure you get good gas. Around here, we have no problems getting 93oct.

Thanks Scottie. I guess the R&D advance plate will be next. 6 degrees more advance for a total of 9!

BTW- I forgot to mention I was getting 56 MPH, then I started to turn down (restricting) the exhaust sprayer valve and gained 2 MPH to 58

That 93 octane is going to be a bitch to get here in CA. There is a a gas station nearby in Uberrichville Rancho Santa Fe, which sells 100 octane. I could mix with premium 91 to get 93. But then again I like to whole pump gas thing.

Im at 3 degree advance now with temp sensor. I wonder if i disconnect the temp sensor and put the timing advance plate on for 6 degree advance I could get away with 91 octane? The 9 degree advance total pushes me to 93 octane

It will also depend on the amount of compression...and your squish clearence.

If you want a no brainer ski and wanna stay away from thinking your motor will stick from running to hard stay where you are at.

There is something to be said about a ski that runs hard but is also really reliable.

Ask your self what is your goal you are trying to get with this ski.
race..? Drag.? Rec ski.?
fastest local...idk.

Can't wait to finish mine

58 is a good speed, I've had 60 out of mine, but you need to balance it one the centre chine for a few seconds to get all the hull out the water.

Just up pitched my prop from 16/23 to 16/25 as I'm sitting pretty much 50rpm off the limiter and way above my torque band. Will try it this coming weekend and report back

SJ Jim, any update?

My 14.5-17.5 (big hub) prop is at 7450 RPM giving 58mph, so I have some "room to grow". I'll have to install the timing advance plate and see what she does.

I'm running 16/23 and it seems perfect for my stock engine with a little compression bump.

I think we are using different brands so the pitch measurements are not the same. Mine is a Hooker, are you guys using Skat Trak? You should bring your ski to fiesta so we can compare....Superjetjim you can bring your over too, LOL

Yeah mines a Skat Track large hub.

Ha ha yeah I'll just sneak it on the plane as excess baggage in March! Look forward to hooking up
