Big day today! Been coming for a few weeks.Got the motor mount plates glued down (Fusor 116) and then 4 sheets of 12 oz biaxile glass mid way. Also sealed all the plumbing in with 5200.The sealant job sucks, never have been good useing a gun.Actually very sloppy, now that l look at the pics. But it won't leak, and once l close it up it will look great.

l spent a few hours actually lining up and making sure the couplers were aligned. When l made the pads l glassed too much,so it was a pain just slowly sanding down until l had correct hieght. But feel very confident that it is right. One think that really bothers me is the fact the the plates are cockeyed in the hull, especially the right one.Someone didn't line them before drilling and tapping the holes.l don't know how much more time it would have took to them right, but geezzz!

One comment about this whole thing about weighing the skis.Another member made the statement to me that the skis should have been weighed before starting to do anything and then weighed when done(Dry). l think that is a correct statement. And we all should follow this advise.Comments?

Who cares how sloppy the sealant is when it's hidden. Looks like the sealant on the bulkhead is good.

One thing I thought about with the ski weights was that even stock SJ's vary depending on who's ski you're looking at. You have one guy who will reinforce his ski and refoam and add footholds and it will come in at 105lbs. Then the next guy will refoam and add footholds as well with no reinforcing and his ski will weigh 115lbs. My SJ with a flatdeck was 300lbs last season so as long as this hull is more than 20lbs lighter than that, I'll be ok with it. Not much is changing component wise between my old and new ski.

Looking good Don !
Looks like you bought a new camera as well , or your photoghaphic skills have improved as much as your ski building skills!

l started Sunday with my wife helping me lay this piece of blue/black carbon fiber.Every mistake was made and then l pulled it up.First mistake was wetting out the whole area(dup!).Then decided l need to keep the piece from unraveling by taping up all the edges with blue (delicate) tape.l even rubbed the tape on my jeans to get more sticky off. That was my second mistake. That sh!tin tape would not release from the carbon,so if you can envision panic as l pulled the :):):):)in fibers apart!!! *#&@! But l'm still hanging in there.l almost got past that and when l started to wet out more of the epoxy as it was setting up stickin the brush to the mat.Actually this sounds quite comical now.

But pulled the mat up,washed it down with acetone and resanded the whole area.Came in last nite with small 1/4" fabric tape, rolled and sectioned the mat into thirds and wet out just enough to work a small area. When l got all done,l was able to pull the the tape off very easily. All that is left now is to clean up some of the rough edges.

That's a lot of carbon. I see the twill pattern but I don't see the blue.

What are the two mounts in the center of the hull for?

That is the problem with the blue/black combo."Ya can't see the blue".Except when you are out in the sunlight.Chad told me that would happen, but l had already bought the material. So l used it.

The two mounts are for the gas tank.Only problem is the 550 tank is too wide. The tank fits great right there, but then you can't fit the battery.Really the only place for the battery is where you have yours mounted.Unless you buy the ones that Aircraftsalz has.l haven't tried a Jetline(?) batt yet.lt may work!

Yeah I'm seriously considering the lightweight battery but hesitant. Hell I'm still trying to figure out where I'm going to mount a bilge pump. If I had moved the gas tank up an inch, it'd be fine. I burn through that kart tank in no time so maybe it's time for a composite tank.

Still looking for one! Anyone know where 300sx tank can be found? l would almost have someone make one out of aluminum,if it didn't cost a arm and a leg.

lf anyone has got an idea out there, let me know.

Takin' a break? wuzzup?

l've just been doing small items like bonding inserts down.Kind of boreing to see pics of that!lol Waiting on a gas tank from havasuwc right now.Brandon is the owner of Havasu Watercraft and a good guy.Done business in the past with him and he always delivers.

l hope to bond the hull and deck together by next week. Then more carbon on the inside. So not too much more now.Be nice to have it on the water by mid April.l'll bring it down this summer so you guys down there can ride and see if the ski and the work was worth it.

Yea,using the 300sx tank. The 550 tank fits in there great, but the right side(carbside) of the tank sits over about 2 inchs too far.l even took an old tank l had and cut he end off enough to make it work. But trying to bond the tank back and hopeing it doesn't split is a worry! So l went with the 300.

how many gallons is a 300 tank... i have a 550 tank now, but actually cant remember where i put it? and a 9L cart tank on the way. but not sure whats gonna have room for with water box/ resignatior?? im not very good with fabrocating/ making stuff work.. im more of a bolt togehter OEM guy! lol... so a project like this was probly a lil more than i wanted, but ill get her together some how?
