Custom/Hybrid Superfreak Review - Ride, Buying Experience, Quality

I rode your ski Lucas. The pole weight destroyed my back but other than that it was great. I loved the rockered red one when playing on the waves, but I think yours is probably a better all around ski.

The reviews were quite different than Daytona. A lot of people were loving the rockered hull.

I rode them in Daytona and it was tough on my back as well. I know I talked to you about a spring when I got my freak, I decided to try running the pole tight and I have to say I now love it. I tried riding a sprung pole the other day and it was comical.

The whole tite pole thing is kinda comical, but once you learn to ride with tite pole and relax, you find it can be easier...just have to not fight it. I almost can't ride a floppy floaty pole anymore.

My experience as well. I get on a ski with a long hanndlepole and floppy loose with spring and I am lost!
To each his own!

I am a tight pole convert also, i just wish I didn't have to re-stiffen my pole every ride. no matter what it loosens a bit afterr a bit of riding, I wish someone would come up with a cotter pin setup to keep it locked where I want it. Carl from coldfusion should make a croc collar type setup for the pole bolts for an adjustable x-metal pole!

Lucas, how was the gray carbon full length freak setup last yr at the lake at tona as far as pump, trim, rideplate.I couldnt get it to rail a corner at all.it pushed me upright like a gyro everytime, didnt really slide out even. It was a very flat turning ski,it turned very quick and was really responsive as long as you keep the corners flat. maybe there are some options to change that,or setup choices?

rmbc freeride makes a good point carving is a little subjective, but even a pre 08 tubbied sj will let me drag a hip or elbow in a 90 deg corner..but it would be interesting to setup a freak for a dual purpose,carve/surf ski. It seems most of them are setup for dual purpose flatwater backie/surf. I really dont have much interest in flatwater flips

My first experience with tightening the pole was with that lovely stunt hole.l had the xmetal pole set up with pole bolts.l cranked the bolts down hard and tried using it a few times.Hated every minute riding. When l got the rok l tried again and just eased into slowly tightening a little more each ride.l have it now where it is very stiff and love it.The slow transition worked great for me.

l guess we need to stay on the subject!

Those awesome Freaks!!!

I like that idea, but until then red loctite!

Red loctite has not helped me with my current setup. I think the pole bushings are too soft and they wore out.
I had to crank it down pretty much every ride and I got a very light pole. The bushings need to be replaced.
On the plus side, I think I might experiment around with a shorter pole over the winter. I may buy a stock RN pole and shorten it.

red locktite has helped but I still have to tighten after every weekend, and I let it set up the whole next week. somedays I notice a big difference even from the beginning of the day to the end. I bet the croc collar would be a big hit though! I'd get a set, and know of at least 2 other of my ride buddies with the same setup that would get some too!

My buddy has an Xmetal pole on his SN. Hit his bolts with an impact. Hasn't moved all season, lol. On the SF there's not enough room or I would have done the same thing. I find I need to tighten mine every few rides. It's important to lock the inside down really well first and lock the two against one another.

The impact would work, but kinda worries me.A little over the top........

I keep my WDK very tight and love it ....can't ride loose pole skis at all! I would love to see a trim lever activated locking pole that locks every 15 degrees...pull lever....slam it in to desired spot...rip!

Suppose to use Red Loctite on the bolts................

Good idea BK.
