Custom/Hybrid SUPERFREAK talk

Some observations from my build:

  • Double-check all your bolt lengths. Many inserts are shorter than stock to allow for the super-low profile of the ski. You don't want to break stuff with bolts that are too long.
  • If you are getting the integrated front foothold, the standard coupler cover will not fit. You need to cut it in half lengthwise and perhaps grind some material off the top.
  • Don't put the ebox over too far to the pipe side. The ebox cap will interfere with the head pipe.
  • The hull sides are so thin that a standard bilge fitting will have the nut bottom out before the fitting is snug. Use an o-ring or a washer behind the nut from the bilge side.
  • When you glue in the hood seal, be sure that the front-most portion is as far back as possible.
  • Make sure your hood side hood hooks are on the right way and not flipped 180 degrees.
  • You can most definetely fit two 500GPH bilge pumps by the midshaft.
  • Lock-tite your trim & steering nozzle bolts.
  • Hang the :):):):):) on. This hull is ridiculous.

Just to add a couple things:
The cooling lines do not run straight back from pump to firewall. Eventhough in the pump one is on the right and one on the left, they both come through the firewall on the port where you would want them. When I was building Brian's I ran a wire through just to make sure everything was plumbed correctly since he has an extra cooling line. (siphon, but he upgraded to a mag, so now it's spare)

I was able to get the stock coupler to fit, it's really tight. But it fit.

I like 25mm on the bottom and top , more cushin for the pushin , superlockdownohmygodIcan'tgetmyfeetoutoftheholds.

Haha, is that what was on the red ski in Daytona? I've been playing with it some and it doesn't feel like I'll be able to get in with 25 on both sides, but I loved both skis you had there.

Thank you for letting me sample the Superfreak. It's a very interesting and well thought out hull. I felt the surf potential if I spent some time on it. Also, it was really nice to meet you and put a face to a name. You're a class act and have some great ideas.....Keep the creativity flowing!!

Thanks JD , that really means a lot comming from one of the masters of the (sport) . I was totally digging your ski and ridding , just smooth shreading on those little waves one handed no less !

Has anyone used the watcon hood seal on their superfreak? I bought one because I love it on my superjet. I'm a little worried it might be too tall, but didn't want to use the stock hood seal because I don't think it lines up very well the way the hood sits. Thoughts?

I might just have to wait until I put on my brap strap and crank it down.

I'm also not a fan of the oem hood seal with a freak. I'm going to try some foam window seal I got from lowes, used the same stuff on my lpw sk and it worked great.

If you use the watcon seal you gotta brap strap it and let it sit over night

That's my .02

Positioning the hood properly can be tricky with the OEM seal. But it sure does keep things dry.

I'm running the Watcon seal. I put it in last year and it's still working fine. I ended up slotting it to let the hood lip seat better. I've had no water intrusion issues yet.

I'm moved by DASA power!
Got my RRP 75 mm riser bars installed I definitely think these are going to be the ticket for me on the x-metal adjustable pole! it was just to darn short with my -2 steering system and straight bars even fully extended.

I modified my hood hooks a bit yesterday. I have the new style hull-side hooks, but they were installed all the way forward on the hull. The hood-side hooks engaged, but they never made it past the "hook" part on the hull side.
I remounted the hull side hooks all the way back - they are now flush with the vertical part of the hood seal channel.
Works great! Much better than before.

But wait!

The "hook" part on the hull side part is a bit too aggressive. Once the hood was on, I couldn't get it back off. It took me about 15 minutes of wrestling that thing to get it off again. So I took a dremel to the hook part and removed some material.
Works like a dream now, hood sits perfectly and is very secure.

Mine takes some fiddling around with too, but I don't mid it soo much, way better than losing a hood, I think I going to try a watcon hood seal, mine just isn't keeping the water out sadly. I must have botched the install, ski ran great this weekend, still haven't nailed my first backflip but I sure as hell tried and failed.
