go for it! put reverse trim on your sj and i'm sure it'll make it a lot easier. just because you don't see a trick being done by joe kenny or another pro doesn't mean you can't do it. take some vid shots of your attempts and post em! :headbang:

even tho i predict a broken neck coming from this i say go for it! and like all the others i want some video. hell i would almost rather watch video of someone NOT landing it than going fully around.

Im sure its not impossible

Things are moving so fast today that when someone says something is impossible, they are interupted by someone doing it.

hell i remember hearing that a backflip on a dirtbike was impossible. Now they are throwing them out like they could do it in there sleep.

Thanks Eddie. I've been waiting for somebody to say this. I don't know where anybody thinks they can get any kind of forward rotation. when you hit the gas the nose rises. Unless you got a 90 degree drop nozzle, i just don't see it happening.

Have any of you guys seen "An American Tale", you konw, the one with the mice.

Remember the pigeon who sings the song "Never say Never"?

I'd bet a paycheck that a front flip has not been accomplished yet....but I wouldn't bet $10 that it will NEVER happen.

Exactly - very tough to get forward rotation going. The only way I can see it working is an off-axis roation where you throw your weight forwards and slightly to the side. Isn't that how the windsurfers used to do it? The good thing about a front flip is that your forward momentum helps you complete the roll even if you catch various ski and body parts in the water on the way around. I need to go and look at some windsurfing footage.

that is so weird lookin, cool though for sure. I agree that the slightly off axis rotation would be the only way, but without some crazy a$$ drop nozzle, it ain't gonna happen, otherwise when you hit the gas it forces the nose up

between the wind helping and no real weight there... windsurfing yeah..
but just the weight of the ski alone would be enough to prevent you from getting enough forward rotation before landing under your ski...
but I would definately love to see the attempts and the bodily remains of the ski and rider!!!!

so I say go for it... but post the vids!!!!!

:haha:

That video is exactly what I imagine would happen if you only make it part of the way.

I hit a sand bar and got launched over the bars, fliped and landed on my feet. Does that count, the landing was smooth:biggrin:

OK, what about a high speed, over rotated sub? When you think about it we all know how to start a forward rotation. The way the first windsurfers did flatwater front flips was to plant the tip of the mast in the water at high speed and let momentum do the rest. What if you could plant the nose in with enough speed to flip you over? You'd land straight on your back, but the second half of a front flip is a piece of cake - it's the first half that's tough.

frontflip = wipeout

call it a trick if you want.

i think its impossible but then there was a time when people thought backflips were impossible.... so prove me wrong.

just get it on video. other peoples broken bones/skis are always insteresting.

I'm not saying it is not possible, I just called :bs2: (BS) that it has been done, and on a 550 no less. If someone had done that trick I think there would be video around.

I have thought bout the front flip before. If you watch the Ramp video, when they go off the ramp, the ski does a nose dive because the second the ski hits the ramp it is slowing down. This, to me, seems like there is a possiblity to do it, however, it would require the rider to really pull the ski around. Seems difficult, but 8 years ago so did a backflip.

in wake boarding there is a style of flip called a tantrum where you intentionally make the side of the board dig under the wake making the rider "trip" over and make a full roatation. That may help in fliping a ski forward, make sure you hit the wave later than when doing a back flip so that the breaking wave helps push the nose down.

That picture of me with a busted nose happened in a similar manner. As I left the lip of wave that didn't quite peak, my ski sputtered. I had enough forward momentum to still launch off the wave, but my body position and the lack of a "braaap" off the top sent me flat, then past flat.

I wasn't anywhere NEAR any sort of front flip...but the point I'm making is that getting a forward rotation of sorts isn't really that unheard of.

You could definitely do that on a barge or paddle-steamer wake: the waves are very close together and pile up very steep.

Come on back up here to Nashville and get behind the General Jackson paddle wheel riverboat. It makes a nice sawtooth wave that is sweet about 150' off the boat. You can pull some good stabs and I am sure that this mysterious FF could be tried about 300' from the boat where the waves become tall & sharp. I seem to remember last year when someone was too hung over to make the river after a night of fun while in town for the race:biggrin: .
