The Waternut Stunt hull build

No, I would say they used Rivets to hold it in place until the glue set up. Kinda like using drywall screws to hold footholds in place until the adhesive sets up.

Yeah the rivets are there to hold the decks together while the bonding glue dries. Everything was bonded with normal 5200 so it's actually still curing. Dan included an aluminum plate for the battery box and two small block inserts for the tank so I can install them where I want. I haven't decided if I'm going to use the battery block though because it's a 1/4" block of aluminum and it's not real light. We'll see... What's a pound...

I plan to do a couple more coats of paint on the top deck and hood this evening and then do the bottom deck and the underside of the hood on the following two days.

I split an old square nose apart a few months back, it had maybe 10 rivets on each side. There was no way in hell I could have split the hull with them in (I tried pulling it apart with a couple still in because I got stick of drilling them). I drilled them out and it practically fell apart with a couple whacks of the hammer and chisel.

I keep hearing there are plenty on the water but I think that's BS. If there were multiple hulls on the water already, where are those owners and why haven't they responded to all the inquiries about how it rides.

I like the swiss cheese idea for the battery plate but I'm sure I'd kill whatever drill bit I use though.

Gave the top deck a good wet coat today. Unfortunately, I've proven that I don't do bodywork and painting for a living. I didn't tighten the nozzle on the gun properly so towards the end, I started getting some splatter and inconsistency in the firemist flakes. I also had a few bugs land on the F-ing thing...lol. If you look closely you can see the dark line that goes along the side in the first picture. Oh well... I'll see how much paint I have after I do the bottom deck and may or may not give it another coat. I figure you have to be looking closely in the right light to see it anyway.

I took a couple pics without the flash to show tone and gloss. The flash brings out the firemist heavier than normal.

I didn't use primer. I sanded the gel coat smooth and used that as my primer. It's a single stage acrylic enamel from tcpglobal.com. It's called cobalt firemist. It's held up pretty well on my SN and my jeep which have spent almost a full year outside.

I'm pushing hard to get this thing on the water. It should be ready before the end of the month since I don't need to do any driveline work but it will obviously depend on how long everything takes to dry and if I run into any problems during the build.

Do Not wet sand/buff if you're using single stage! It will really F it up with all that flake.

Don't worry...I know but thanks. I know it won't buff out either. That and the lack of the amazing luster are the downsides to single stage but at $100 for a gallon instead of $300-$1000, it's fine for my uses. If I were to paint a nice car, it would certainly be a urethane basecoat clearcoat.

Did the last day of painting today. I would prefer to more coats on it tomorrow but I don't have enough paint. I have enough to do touch up work in the future. Last years SN and my jeep used the rest of that gallon... Although for my $100 in paint, I sure got my moneys worth out of it. I ran into a couple fish eye spots on the bottom and some nasty stuff in the pump cavity and at the back but who cares...it's on the bottom. lol

I'll start digging into the meat of this thing tomorrow or Thursday.
