Any reason why you don't use heat treated D2 or similar tool steel, besides material cost? You could try coating them too. We use a company called Eifeler to coat die sections for around $13 a pound I think. Their Duplex Variantic PVD coating is top notch, we've seen 500,000+ hits on deep draw dies before having to recoat.
Yup same here. D2 and a M0sT coating. But think about it. Now many hits does it need to last? A 30yr tool will get at the most a couple thousand hits unless the price of the entire system comes down to bpipe range. Hard to justify unless your're robotic welding and cant afford the variability in spring back form the rolled edge.

Also curious what the material was selected. Alot of pro's to aluminum but its also a d1ck to deepdraw w/o wrinkling. Thankfully we have simulation software to figure clamping pressures

Ideas on waterbox install on these? They are yuuuuge lol, can't think of anything other then epoxy UFOs

Just a thought - no sales tax in oregon... Tax in Cali is close to 10% at 1600 you will save a chunk...

Finally got my ski all buttoned up and to ride it for the first time yesterday. The water is still very cold here but I was able to easily get the pipe to temperature. I'm running a new engine setup so my focus was on carbs but I'm excited to get to dial the pipe in more. Right now I am running a 90 jet in the spray bar and have a jetworks valve opening around 4k RPMs. I'll tailor this a bit more once the water warms up.

What temp were you getting the pipe to. I've got 112.5 jet with about 8 deg water temp so think I'm running it a tad on the cold side.
