What’s the biggest surf you’ve ever ridden in?

Last Pismo Freeride. Whatever size it was 15 or so.
But I did NOT actually rode any of those waves....

Hell I could not even make it pass the last whitewash, which BTW was 8 feet tall coming roaring all angry at you.........LOL!

Some day...

Hurricane Bill at the secret spot... some of the larger sets were 13' +/- (I am guessing)

The bigger stuff was too big for me to do anything other than "experience it" (just awesome).

X3...biggest and best form ground swell waves I have ever ridden...dbl overhead on Saturday for sure...30 plus riders will never forget it !!

there are guys out there charging big surf, just depends how clean it is,once you get to a certain point of huge, that usually isnt even possible, wind chop is inevitable

Biggest I've actually ridden was 6 - 8 Texas Gulf waves, WAY fun but hard work with the Gulf washing machine. Biggest I've been in the water [and RAN from with no hesitation] and FAR, FAR more scary was the first Surf Slam in, was it '06? and when I was in the water it was about 8 feet consistently and I waited for it to go down. The feel of WC waves is COMPLETELY different than Gulf, I know that for sure.

The level of power behind those waves was so completely different than our tame little Gulf, I was shocked at how different it was (and after you've seen a live animals entrails hanging out, not that much shocks me).

Ive always thought that was one of the best ski vids as well,Thats what true freeriding in surf is about, tearle or sheldon prolly already have been tubed,im sure if they rode that kinda surf often it would happen in short order on film, you might not be able to get in as deep as on a board, but covered up for sure. Id love to rip down the face of those waves. Just cause its big doesnt mean it has to be nasty everywhere like it was at surfslam. Id like to hear some of the other ozzy guys story on this

that's a killer video man... I love surf riding... don't need big air inverted tricks... just some nice glassy conditions and some good clean riding...

very cool!!

X3 when its that big and clean a flip or a roll would be wasting an unreal ride! Seriously how often would any of us get a chance to ride that!

I'm not sure.

Two possibilities....

1. Sebastian - about 4-5 years ago. There was a little sebby ride thrown together when I was new at PWCT. (maybe 20 people?) I was pretty much a surf noob and I was riding an X2 and I got rolled and chased and slapped down by waves that were about 1000 feet tall on the front and about 2000 feet tall on the backside.... the backs were way scarier than the faces!

Haha, really I can't guess how big the waves were that day and most of the people who rode that day don't post anymore. I know I looked back and wayyy up at one of the monsters that chased me. Scared the schitt outta me! I did not belong out there. I was way too new for that.

2. Hillsboro - about 2 years ago. This time with a little more experience and a superjet. Just hubby and I and I think the waves were bigger, but they were less scary because I wasn't quite so new anymore and I was on a better boat. On the way out, some guy tried to motion to us not to go out because the waves were almost like vertical walls. They were scary but I knew by then to surf them instead of trying to jump them, so it was fun.

I spent much of my ride time hoping hubby did not break down because we would've been phucked if I had to tow back in from that schitt.

I'm gonna guess both of these times were 10 footers or less. They looked like skyscrapers to me though.

I can't believe this is the first time I have seen that vid! AWSOME!

When I used to ride, I have probably been in 12-15ft. Scarry stuff!

12-14ft. Anarchy on Lake Erie..... We haven't had waves like that in over 5 years (at least during the day!)

8-12ft. Surf @ Jersey Rager with the Caker (cold as hell that day, in the 40's and raining!) Really close together. Drank some salt water that day...

....both days scared the crap outta me, but were fun as hell.
