what am i supossed to do?

OK folks, that is what a piston and cylinder look like from the effects of Detonation. the ring colapsing and and catching the port was a side effect (in this case) as a hole was burned thru the piston,

this motor failed in my opinion from detonation, could have been lean on the carbs, air leak , too low an octane fuel, old fuel ect.

Db

That is exactly what I was going to say. I have a few snagged ring pistons at the garage that I kept and none of them are melted. plus that "pin" that you call it stuck in the piston is HUGE compared to the pins that I have seen. What about if the guide pin came out and then the ring spun around and cought the exhaust port is that his fault. Or are you going after Wiseco. Trust me Wiseco won't pay for it. I tried and if there is ANY piston to wall scoring it is not there fault.

I still side with Wydopen he owes you nothing. I wouldn't pay a dime especially since the pictures are up.

That pin is the pin that wiseco uses in those pistons. If you look closely in the side photo of the piston you can see where it is supposed to fit. That hole in the top of the piston is over just about the strongest part of the piston. It is over a thickened spot to accomadate where they pin fits for ring allignment. Anyone from Massachusetts feel free to come take a look and youll see what happened. There is aluminum smeered up the cylinder wall only on that one spot of the cylinder. It is wedged into the transfer ports. The piston tore a ring and was smashing into the unchamfered ports and finally snagged the pin. the aluminum is going to melt if you rub it on the side of a cylinder wall.

68mm stroke x 4500 rpm means the piston would have dragged on the wall for the equivalent of 988.4 ft at a speed of about 33 mph. Thats a long way to drag aluminum that fast over something. It would melt from friction.

Speaking of aluminum being damaged...

I dropped a can of soda onto a brick once. The edge of the brick hit the side of the can.

I took the can back to the store, and told them they sold me a faulty can, that the aluminum was made unevenly and left a weak spot in the wall of my can. All I wanted was for them to sell me another can of $.50 soda for $.25. I felt that was fair, but they said, and I quote "You shouldn't have dropped the can on the brick in the 1st place."

I was quite disappointed. I'm not going back to the store, ever.

Come over to Massachusetts and say that same story. I think it would be alot funnier to hear in person. I think we could make a new story involving a brick denting something.

I have to run. Some "brothers" I sold a see-doo to six years ago are knocking on my door, the thing broke last weekend and they want a refund.

Your all ignorant. Thats not a threat either. I asked him to come over. Most engineers are stupid so its ok guys dont worry. Im sure you were the kids i need to tutor through classes. Im a straight A student with a 1550 SAT. Jokers like you scraping by with C's are why the engine blew up in the first place. An engineering degree from whatever lame state school you got it from isnt worth the paper its printed on.

My advise to wydeopen: ignore the little clown, forget about this thread and go on with your life. This kid is a joke.

I never spoke to Wydopen like this. I respect those who show respect. Talking when you dont know what your talking about is not a good attribute.

Do I even need to point out the grammar and punctuation errors in that paragraph?

Is technical writing still taught as part of an engineering degree? It doesn't appear so.

I have 2 degrees and an engineering LICENSE, junior. I don't care how many degrees you have and from what school you receive them. You may have an engineering degree, but your ass will end up working for an Engineer. The exam board does not give a rat's ass what school your degree came from and what your GPA is.

Agreed. Ignore the punk.

It's "grammar" dude... damn penguins... LOL

To hell with grammar and what the kid comes across like...a snagged ring will lead to significantly lower compression, thus an excess of CO's or unburnt gasses. When you have unburnt gasses you will NEVER have melted piston. As for his statement about how far the aluminum was dragged on the cylinder at whatever speed...:bs2:The whole design of a two stroke engine blows his theory out of the realm of possibility. The oil in the fuel creates a barrier between the piston and the cylinder.

This motor had a lean condition causing detonation that burned a hole in the piston. AFTER the hole burned through, the ring broke off and began to do further damage to the piston and cylinder.

That is my opinion...but what do I know? This is just what I have been doing for a living for the past eighteen years!
