unless, the ring gave and the combustion gases were so hot traveling PAST the ring seal they burned it thru.

I dont know.

we need an SBT tech in here to diagnose.

If you snag a ring and it runs on the cylinder walls and then catches teh dowel pin which is lodged in the top of the piston its going to tear a hole in it. That melted side is on the opposite side as the exhaust. Hence the arrow on top of the piston.
 
If you tear a hole its going to rub and melt itself even more.

The procedure i used on this motor after installation was first ride out i rode it about about 2k rpms for about 3 minutes and checked the plugs. Rode it alil higher for a few more minutes checked the plugs. Rode alil more checked the plugs. Loaded it on trailor and took on vaca. Took it out at maryland and warmed it up alil bit then was cruising at about 4k cause it was rough and it went downhill fast.

maybe a foreign object got in there during storage/shipping/installation?
