You know, any of use would be bitching and cussing and just getting all ticked of. You, "Cool, I can fix this, I love it when stuff does not fit and I have to spend all kinds of extra time on this project. I will just break out the lathe".

The funny thing is, I hit it with the die grinder first using a carbide burr, then tried a flapper wheel and then it dawned on me that it would be way easier on the lathe.

Some days I feel like I would like to have the space back but then I use the mill or lathe on a project and it’s all worth while. They are incredibly useful and handy.

I just turned the threads off a 3/4" chevy body mount bolt because I was bored. I'm telling myself it was to check deflection and the rigidity of one of the old lantern style tool post holder. It may end up being a s.s. bolt for my baby crossbow.

On the previous part, are you running a ball end mill with small stepover as a clean up pass, or leaving it as is?

I haven’t really been able to use my mill for anything requiring any precision or CNC since we moved into the new house.

I dismantled everything prior to the move in order to fit it into the mobile enclosure I built. Once I got it moved, I realized that the Z tower was off square by almost 3 deg. I could tram it close but it required attention to be precise again.

I had also stripped off the cheap mechanical limit switches and replaced them with pass-by inductive proximity sensors so if I ever overrun a limit in manual, I don’t end up running into the limit and destroying it like I was doing. I ordered an NPN relay block months ago but have never taken the time to get it all functional. Now I can power up and just hit the “home all” button again and everything is ready to run from the computer.

So, today I squared up and Trammed the Z axis and got all my limits wired and tested and so we are back in business.

Not a tunnel support. I’m replacing the sheet metal running boards so the snow doesn’t pack up in them and bring the runners up in to the tunnel and suspension bolts for strength. I was using a 3/4 ball nose custom built by GWS .05 step over. It’s very common in this industry to leave it as is. Time is money and if it’s a cosmetic surface if it looks good it ships. Can’t say names but my full time job is CNC programmer for an engine shop here is some of our stuff.

Having the head just a tad off tram will leave a nice deck surface finish. I’m about .0015 on a 10” circle with my indicator.

I can’t take credit for the design but I clean up all the models to make them machinable and figured out how fixture/machine them from start to finish.

Do you program in your head when you are doing things other than your work? I find myself plotting tool path in my head when mowing the lawn, running the vacuum or even just watching our Roomba scoot around the room.
