Specialized was a good buy for what you're looking for, new to the forum and was stoked to see this bike thread as I race DH and own a bike company!

Btw I put a Dh direct mount stem and MTB handle bars on my 750 sxi :nana:

Is this bike worth anything or is it just another China bike? I'm just wondering based on how the back end looks. Plus the bike looks beefy.

i personally HATE v brakes, unless theyre magura. which i doubt. the fork has little travel, spring shocks are personal preference. if the frames super beefy and heavy duty, it might be a good base for a freeride bike. it really depends on what you want to do. if you ride it once a year, itll do what you want probably

Take a look on craigslist in your area, that's a run-of-the-mill bike from China that sells for $40 all the time used. Junk. Any bike that has a Shimano Equipped sticker is trying to gain credibility with their name when Shimano makes super cheap stuff as much as their nice stuff.

Alright thanks guys. It's free to me. Just needs some tubes in the tires. I'm just looking for something to go ride trails once a month or so. Not looking to spend a lot but now looking for a piece of :):):):) either. Any good suggestions on a mid grade run of the mill bikes.

Brand or styles I should be aware of.

youll get more bike for the money in a hardtail. once a month riding, hardtails are fine. i ride a hardtail specialized. theres a lot of bike companies that have top dollar carbon stuff, and then 500 dollar bikes. craigslist it, then post it in here on what you might like, get everyones feedback from here.

What PS said. Post up your finds. I would find a good used Hardtail for about $400-500.00. This would have been about. $1200 bike new 3 years ago. If not wore out you got a good bike.

Of those two the Iron Horse is far better. The Trek has twist shift which is a little different to use as well as V brakes. If you can afford it…one step up in quality and in a hard tail would be nice. A used $400 - 500 hard tail with hydraulic disk brakes and Shimano Deore shifters is a nice start. May get lucky and find one cheap. Personnaly I can't see riding without Hydraulic disks.

Iron horses are actually stout from reading about them. I was reading up on older frames that could support dual crown forks for downhill, and the iron horse was one that was recommended. That's honestly a good price for a full suspension starter. Now if you start hitting stuff harder, I'm sure you'll find very quick you'll need better forks and brakes. But a damn good starting point
