What MTB to get and how much to spend?

Iron horses are actually stout from reading about them. I was reading up on older frames that could support dual crown forks for downhill, and the iron horse was one that was recommended. That's honestly a good price for a full suspension starter. Now if you start hitting stuff harder, I'm sure you'll find very quick you'll need better forks and brakes. But a damn good starting point

Iron Horse is a good brand. But, They have a very low level line also...... That one shown is low line, not the greatest for trail riding....... The front fork is just a suspension fork, not a good one, it moves up and down.......... sometimes you would be better off running a rigid fork vs a poorly designed suspension fork that does not rebound when you need it to....... This can make for a terrible and even unsafe ride.........

You can get alot of bang for your buck at bikesdirect.com.. Haro makes some solid, budget minded bikes too. My LBS will call around and look for leftover models that didn't sell. My wife's haro hardtail was 3 yrs old but sitting brand new in a box. Bought it for less than the XT components group that came on it would've cost alone.

My 2 current bikes I bought as old stock, My Titus FTM (Full Suspension) retailed for $3,400.00, Paid $2600.00 new. My Gary Fisher Rig 29'r S.S. Retailed for $1600.00, Paid $1100.00 new. The Titus was a 2009 model, bought it late in 2009, The Rig was a 2009 and got it in 2010. Best to buy last years model as old stock. Great deals.

Until the past 2 years, Niner only sold frames, to buy complete, you would go to a LBS that had just built some up............ They now sell bikes complete as packages...... TITUS use to be the same way.

EBAY........... Personally, I do not care for Bikesdirect. Kinda like Walmart of Bikes........ I know they have bikes with good components, and some of the frames are very good....... But, they are not a bike shop.

That's why I would rather build something, when I'm done and I don't like something it's my fault. I'm not buying a good frame with half ass components. Or top dollar components on a goofy ass frame. I like the older giant glory's. Heavy duty

Sorry Harrison, I would research it, but I'm on my phone and I'd rather research it on a desktop rather than a 5" screen

Thinking they are 5" travel. The Motolite/FTM is a Trail Bike, The El Quapo is more of an Enduro type bike. great for bombing down hills, but can still be ridden on trails and up hills......

Now I'm in this boat too....never saw it coming....but I'm addicted to Rays indoor mountain bike park! I never knew how clapped out and crappy my 10 year old full suspension 26" bike was until I rented one of their Trek jump bikes! It changed everything and took me to the next level instantly! (reminds me of switching from SXi to SJ to A/M hull!)

The only jump bike I see in my price range around here, is a GT Ruckus......and then a Scott (I had no idea they made bikes let alone good ones!)...

Any thoughts???

What frame do you have? I think I'd almost rather upgrade what you have, unless your frame won't support rear discs..
