When good threads go bad...

'buy a superjet' falls under the GOOD advice category. stop picking and choosing words, travison.

Just leave everything alone. It's seems like every 3 months their is a big drama thread or 2 and then everyone chills back out. Just seems to be the cycle.

If we're throwing out people's name to get ban. Ban that wacko suziq.

Terry, that's the unfortunate reality of internet message boards.
Real experts or 14 year old punks, everybody has a screen name, and the reader has no way to distinguish facts from bull. I personally cannot think of a way to stop that.
Can you?

Yeah let me be a mod for about a month,I may not be able to cure the cancer completely but I think I could put into remission.

sorry - I disagree. Banning people for any amount of time ALMOST never changes their behavior.

It doesn't matter if it's 1 day, 1 month, or 1 year.

usually. there are exceptions, though.

Look at Charlie, perfect example. He never changes. Yeah, he may come back and be a saint for a while, but then he goes back to old ways.

bump, seriously, you complained about this place, so what do you suggest to help?

I have a friend that no longer logs on here, hasn't for two months now,he says the constant BS and turmoil here messes up his attitude and that he just really doesn't need it anymore.I have gotten some really good info off this site, hopefully I have given back my share as well. But you know what he is dead on on some of his observations and try as I might I cannot dispute his logic.I see way too many know it alls here, what advice I do give is based on 20+years exp in PWC's ,peeps with little to no exp will come in and start arguing with me,which is fine but it gets old when it happens day in and day out. This is why most of the people here that have acquired a vast array of knowledge don't post that often anymore,I could name a few people but take a look around you can see who isn't posting anymore.Just something to think about folks.

What do you suggest to fix the 'constant BS and turmoil' or at least minimize it?

One person doesn't cause that, or even a few when you have 1400+ active members (logged on in past 2 weeks, Threads: 41,424, Posts: 639,139, Members: 6,043, Active Members: 1,443) it takes a group or group mentality.

One thing I've learned is you can't change people's minds/attitudes on the internet, so I don't even try. If this is the way our members are, then that's how it's going to be and we all just have to live with it or move on like some people have done.

I prefer to not participate in the drama threads, they do me no good whatsoever.

I think it really comes down to the membership and moderators working together. If a moderator does something, the membership needs to back him up, not bitch him out. On the other hand, if a member tries to put someone in their place, they need to be backed up by other members and the moderators.

Also, where is the "Report this thread/post" button? Am I missing it? If it does not exist, I think we need one, and we need to use it. That way the moderators can be made aware of a situation as it happens and not after it gets out of hand.

Maybe you need to add a couple moderators to take care of different sections, and only those sections. I'll use the For Sale section again as an example because I think it needs more attention. So (again) do we want to enforce the 'post a price' rule or delete the rule? Rules are rules are they not? Does it apply to some but not others?

It really comes down to enforcement. We agree on rules and then leave them up to the mods to enforce them. If the mods don't enforce them, what's the point? (Maybe mod anonymity would help this out?)

In a perfect word, that is all good and great. Unfortunatly someone is always going to bitch.

Members do a pretty good job at reporting post sometimes. Alot of times we catch them just as we are crusing the site.

What I posted was more the observations of myself and a few others here but since you asked here goes.Since you cannot pinpoint who is at fault for this lets assume that everyone here is somewhat at fault, okay reasonable assumption.

Now since everyone is at fault lets come up with a plan where everyone who wishes to do so can participate in a solution. Here is mine, let anyone who wishes to do so mod this place for one month, not a real mod per say but but a jr mod if you will, able to move posts ,temp delete posts, temp lockdown threads etc.

If they do a good job then you may consider them for mod status at some point,if they suck well they don't get long to do so.That gives those who give a damn a chance to make a difference, those who don't give a damn don't give a damn and will continue what they have been doing all along.

This would also keep the mods rotating,a new one once a month ,you would get a chance to see what works and what doesn't work. This place didn't get like this overnight,it won't correct itself overnight either. This should eliminate some of the finger pointing going on here lately.
