Pancaker and Joe (flashsj) came by to help me with the mold. We logged around 8 strait hours of no joke glassing. Made SOOOOO much progress, I am freaking stoked! I have no idea how many yards we burned through...but its ALOT! We are a well oiled fiberglassing machine.

:Banane13:

We broke out the big gun rolls and layed ALOT of 1.5oz.

Pete taking strait resin fumes to the dome.

And the result! Great quote when I asked him if his respirator was helping. "I've been :):):):)ED up for the past 4 hours"

More filling. ALOT of freaking filling.

Resin fumes continued.

We added 2 more layers AFTER these pics were taken but I forgot to take a pic.

Now that we have some solid layers on there. Its time to add THICKNESS. Here is Balktek 2mm Coremat. Polyspun poly material filled with microballons to stop it from absorbing too much resin. Its an amazing material that weighs NOTHING and changes color to let you know its properly wetout. VERY cool product! Going to lay a layer of this down to get some quick lightweight thickness....then top with more glass. Thicker = Good.

And here is as far as I got with the coremat.

that was fun ! :bigok:

It's almost there...lookin real good! Do your neighbors think you have a drug lab or something cooking in your back yard yet? I'm sure Mrs. Kravitz must be wondering after seeing Pete "rolling" around out there.

Hey, Is that like a yule "log" heater you are using out there?

Thats a pretty common question everyone I show the shop too asks....It probably smells worse then a meth lab. Good thing most of my mom's neighbors are only summer residents...lol

And the "yule" log heater has served me well for the past 3 years. I love that thing. Its kept my condo warm when we had a horrible ice storm nor'easter that KO'd the power out for 3days! 20 some other units here had pipes break and I was sitting around in a tshirt trying to keep my house UNDER 80F...LOL!!!. You have to admit it gives the resin lab a warm homey/comfort feel....LOL But some reason my GF doesn't seem to see sitting in the resin lab enjoying the "warm glow" of the fireplace, like I do??:dunno:

Mold itself is done!!! Its WELL over 1/2" thick (at the thinnest point), its built like a FWAKING abrams tank! The motor bay support is probably over 3/4" thick!!! 10yards of 24oz boat roving on it. 10yards of coremat, 10yards of 10oz glass, and somewhere in the ballpark of 30yards of chopmat, and 14gallons of tooling resin.

Just have to glass a few more boards for the stand into it on Thursday night/friday during the day. If all goes right, I will be popping it this weekend!!!

1 topdeck-part

that is a lot of work and a lot of resin. and then the build begins. what a project.
