I'm getting tired of looking at my plain white 440. I'm thinking of sanding it and painting the whole thing, or maybe just doing some creative masking and spraying a 2 color graphic with rattle cans and a few coats of clear coat. Should not be too hard to emulate one of those $250 graphic kits...

Well after some deeper searching I found just a start button on ebay for $9. Hopefully it' in better condition than mine.

Also you can shim the ride plate to help with the porpoising, worked great for my 440, huge improvement. I learned to blip the throttle in tight turns, helps with control vs keeping the throttle open. It's fun learning to ride these things!

An air leak in the fuel system or intake will cause RPM's to climb as the mixture leans out. I would pull and clean the carbs. Be careful not to change the pop-off pressure (ie: keep original springs etc). If you don't want to go that far yet, replace the fuel lines and watch for air bubbles in...

Connect a jumper cable from the negative of the battery to the starter mounting bolts. See if it cranks over stronger.

Most common cause of backfire is exhaust leak. Next most common cause is fuel buildup.. either poor spark, poor spark in one cylinder, etc. Fuel builds up in exhaust and ignites.

Yeah, but I am terrible at painting. I don't have a sprayer, anywhere good to spray, and I don't feel like spending forever sanding and spraying everything. I'd also need to remove the turf, some parts, etc, no thanks. Rather just wrap it if it's an option. Maybe you can convince me otherwise...

AWesome thanks! What does the bouncing and dragging accomplish? Is it to give support in the turn, to brake going into the turn, or is it just to get the weight inside the turn so you can carve harder without sliding out (like dragging a knee on a bike)?

Try pulling the plugs (and then installing them back into the boots and grounding against the cylinder head), and then turn it over for a solid 15 seconds or so. Do this twice. Then re-install the plugs and see if it starts. I had this problem with mine, seemed to be due to water getting back...

Running lean, do not ride it like that. Did you rebuild the carb? Which parts in the carb did you change? It's best to use as many of the old parts as you can so you don't change the jetting or popoff by accident.
