    300/440/550 ***ULTIMATE*** 440/550 picture thread

I'm repainting one of my JS-440s and am going to give this paint job a try. Love it. I never imagined flourescent orange and yellow going well together. Who knew. Is this a rattle can job?

So I was working on my ski and my pisser was loose. I tried to tighten it and it broke off in may hand! Damn. So I started searching and the cheapest pisser is $15+$8 shipping and a week away. I went to discount auto parts store looking for a rubber valve stem to use as a temporary...

Good find. How did you discover this anyway? Did you just happen to check spark when it was good an hot?

    440 with 550 top end, timing 18' or ?

Is the stator timing mark supposed to be at 12'oclock or 3'oclock on a 440 bottom end? My manual does not say! Thanks

    Picked up another JS

Hmmm I did some searching on early JS-550 (1980's) piston port engines and came up with 78-112 for recommended compression.

    440 pump rattle on stand

Yeah, only thing is, my 440 doesn't do this. It idles quietly no rattle or thunking. Why would the new 440 do it? Would like to fix it while I have the engine out.

    440 pump rattle on stand

I picked up a grease gun and shot some grease into the grease fitting. I expected to feel some resistance as the bushing filled up with grease, but I didn't and after a few pumps A bunch of grease came out from the impeller area. Hmm is that bad? Did I blow out a seal? I also pumped about 6...

    440 pump rattle on stand

The 440 I just picked up (with 550 conversion) makes a very loud low frequency rattling noise on the stand. I can feel a lot of vibration from the pump area. I've searched and found different causes from shaft "walking" around the bearing (needs grease) to splines of impeller not perfectly...

    Picked up another JS

Found a 440 local to me pretty cheap with a fairly new PP 550 in it. Compression was 105 in each cylinder which from what I've read is ok for a 550 (?) ... kinda surprised since my 440 reads 152. Anyway, hull is solid, engine seems good, it did start and runs. I think there's a fuel problem...
