    Which ski after the JS?

I'm 215, and losing weight (I was 228 when I got my ski). I ride a JS-440 now and to be honest I have no problem with it at all. I'm not hurting for power or anything, and I do enjoy the small JS ski. Just kinda wondered if it is worth it to move up to a larger ski... more fun or less fun? I...

    Which ski after the JS?

"Only two replies say superjet and you are still looking at the 550... =/" Just haven't found one yet... was considering a 550sx just because it's small and I can handle it myself without a trailer. I throw my 440 in the back of my SUV. Still looking for a superjet ...

    Which ski after the JS?

Ok, well I found a 550SX for $1000, but I think that's a little high for a bone stock 550SX in less than great condition.

    Which ski after the JS?

Not entirely sure where to ask this, but I figured here is a good place since you guys have direct knowledge of how the older JS ski's ride compared to newer skis. I'm thinking of getting a newer ski (but keeping my JS-440). My budget is $1000-$2000. With this budget what would your next ski...

    300/440/550 300/440/550 Which one?

This is an old post, figured I'd update it. I ended up with a 440. No problem at all when I was 230, but I've lost weight, now I'm 215. It's still super fun. Still losing weight also, which means it will become more fun.

300/440/550 87 550 leaky head and base of cylinder?

I've never tried to re-use a copper gasket (that I can remember). I use permatex copper spray gasket sealer on a new gasket. I've read that many people have re-used them, some re-anneal them with a torch (100% acetylene) and some just clean them up and spray them again with permatex. Copper...

    Boat wake jumping help

Sweet ok, so sounds like first wake for big boats and 2nd wake for small boats. Those are some huge jumps. JRock637's jump looks exactly like the wake I hit a couple days ago. I didn't get anywhere near that high, but then I am on a JS440 not a 650 or 750, and I am around 200lbs so well it's...

Any reason an owner would intentionally do this?

Someone was trying to improve their engine performance by adding reeds is my guess. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't, which is how you ended up with the ski in the long run. Maybe some shop convinced someone this was a good idea. I did find this article: http://www.macdizzy.com/update17.html

300/440/550 87 550 leaky head and base of cylinder?

You didn't re-use the copper gasket did you? Can only be cranked down once (usually)

    550 Ebox explanation link?

The switch that keeps the plugs from firing is the kill switch. It just grounds the ignition coil. Thats standard. Total loss ignition, means there is no charging system (as far as I know). That would suck since you'd need to charge the battery before every ride. Not aware of any other mods...

    Boat wake jumping help

Right ok then first wake it is! Did not get out today, spent all day replacing a start button harness. Should have been easy but you know how it goes. Btw, I'm riding a JS440, so gunning it between wakes just ain't gonna happen. Kinda need to carry the speed so I think the first wake is...

How much of a difference between 440 and 550?

I'm loving my 440, but I'm wondering if I'm missing much. Is it a HUGE difference to go to a 550, or just a little more grunt? Is it like going from a 125 dirt bike to a 250? Because that IS a big difference. Thanks

    Boat wake jumping help

Just got back from riding, was determined to jump some wakes, problem is, Friday night, overcast, man no boats. I'm circling the channel like a buzzard playing in my own wake when this HUGE cruiser comes rolling through, I can see the wake behind it and it's like waist high! Its actually white...

    Boat wake jumping help

Ok well there does seem to be some technique going on here so maybe not as dumb of a question as I first thought. I'm glad I asked.

Any JS-440/550 riders around Tampabay area, FL?

Looking for someone to ride old classic skis with. The group near me is all into racing or trick riding, and I am too old for all that. I just want a few people on the gulf coast to rip around and jump some boat wakes, waves, with, etc. I'm in St. Pete.

    Boat wake jumping help

I don't know why I can't seem to get this right, but what is the best way to hit a boat wake? I'm hesitant to shoot right for the biggest part of the wake near the stern, don't want to piss people off... so I've tried a couple of ways to hit them. I usually come in at 90 degrees to the direction...

    Fixed my start button

There are two brass posts in there which are shorted by a washer (the button) to complete the circuit. On my ski, one post was corroded to be about 3mm shorter than the other. I used a dremel and shortened the other post to match, but then had to cut the spring guide of the button so that the...

Clicking coming from the ebox, ski won't start

Seriously check the ground cable before you do anything else! one way to do this is to run a jumper cable from the negative post on the battery to the starter body and then try starting it. If it cranks over you know it's a ground problem.
