$800 for a MINT 1987 is fair. Bolt-on power upgrades are inexpensive. 87's have the squirrel cage steering which is preferred over the direct. Sounds like a great ski to build up and ride.

I have my FCV after the Tee and Jetworks needle valve controlling the flow to the pisser. Essential the needle valve is my adjustment for the FCV. Ran the FCV after the Tee without the needle valve and all the water went out the pisser.

I'm 41 and really started riding stand ups and fixed steers this year. I was sore all summer, hell I'm still sore. The body just doesn't heal as fast as it use to when we were 20, but I'm not stopping until my body breaks down completely.

I wouldn't trade a 550SX reed ski for an 87 piston port. The bolt-ons on the 87 aren't worth too much $100 -$200. What is wrong with the SX?

Not worth $800 IMHO. I personally don't like to buy or sell from/to friends or family. Have you checked compression (150psi stock is ideal), looked up in the pump to make sure the veins and impeller are in good shape, checked the water output from the pisser to make sure it isn't all salt...

What size domes and compression numbers before melt down? Was your cooling system working? I'd pull that bottom end apart and look for pieces. 650 motors can be had for under 300, especially a short block.

I wired in a Tigershark switch that had the same choke set-up, since went to primer, and it has a momentary bilge switch. Works well and not difficult.

There really isn't a flywheel to lighten in the Ultra.
