I wouldn't recommend using RTV only. I'd recommend finding somebody somewhat local to buy the pre cut gaskets from, but if you're set on cutting your own I've had good luck with the gray gasket material.

True, but I think the KDXs are more beginner friendly, easier starting, cheaper, more comfortable and a lot less $$ to fix.

I'd try to find a KDX 200 or 220, or wr250f. Up here you can find cherry KDXs for $1500-$2K. I rode a KDX a couple weeks ago and it reminded me how much I like them, Easy and comfortable to ride but you can still boogie, they are excellent beginner trail bikes that can still be competitive race...

How much are you planning on spending and what kind of riding are you planning on doing?

Mine had one but I never took it out so I can't tell you if there's foam there.

Yeah, I had an '86 rear exhaust reed motored 550 with the rubber rail caps. These things happen. Yes the ride plate is an upgrade.
