You may need to deck the manifold lay it on something flat and see if the manifold is flat.

Terry cable can make up a cable to your specs, I ran a 1" PVC pipe through my hull for the cable and it has a seal tight connector in the engine bay. No need for a spring, the thrust holds it in position. My BMX trim lever just bolted right up however I did need to drill and tap it got the trim...
