This melt down just might have me stumped..

Always makes me laugh when people assume less oil=more power and they are proud to announce some weak ratio they run. Yamaha studied this subject in outboards. I cant remember specifically but i think it was ratios from 150:1 all the way down to 10:1. Basically finding an increase in power...

This melt down just might have me stumped..

I just want to be clear in saying that this failure can be one of the signs of detonation. There doesnt have to be any abnormal patterns or powders on the piston crown.

This melt down just might have me stumped..

Honestly no one knows 100% what went wrong and you may never know. But there has been superb advise given in this thread that can help avoid the same issue raring its ugly head. jetting, pop off or needle and seat size, timing curve, fuel, squish and compression, reeds, air leaks, ect ect...

This melt down just might have me stumped..

It does look lean on one cylinder. But how many of us make an extended run on the pipe at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and then read plugs? Not many im sure. It can be a dangerzone as has been mentioned before in this thread. Also port timings were mentioned. His port timings are stock. Exhaust port is...

    44mm carbs on a 701

Alot of people love the 61x cylinders and theres nothing wrong with going that route other than the heavy portwork required.

    44mm carbs on a 701

Really depends on how much port or casework you want. Could be done as low as $887. Your best power per dollar would be $987. You could go all the way to stage 3 with case porting and that would total $1287 using your pistons.

    44mm carbs on a 701

Im in so cal. I can build you a nice 5mil stroker out of your parts. Your cylinder will not be decked or milled so it wont be stroker only if thats a concern. No crazy prices here either. Why put money towards a 61x cylinder plus porting plus pistons and bore when you can put it towards a nice...

    Supercharged 2-Stroke

Two stroke deisels usually use a supercharger as a scavenging pump and some use a turbocharger along with a scavenging pump. But i think they use exhaust valves not exhaust ports. This way they controll overlap.

    Supercharged 2-Stroke

Different Holeshot not me. I think supercharging has potential in the right hands. i would think a centrifigal blow through with an intercooler and fuel injection on e85 would be a correct approach these days.

Free ride vs freestyle vs race engine

Mild steel and stainless have the best accoustic characteristics. Aluminum not quite as good and carbon would be my last choice because it would dampen the sound wave making it less effective. Thats my opinion anyway.

Free ride vs freestyle vs race engine

Pipe temp has a dramatic effect on powerband characteristics. But so does port time area. Different people have different preferences. Some like power to come on hard early and slowly fade, some like it to come on smooth and pull harder as it revs. In another industry i noticed novice to expert...

Free ride vs freestyle vs race engine

Agreeing with TNT, Blowdown period and pipe design go hand in hand. Ive worked with motors that make power up to 20k with just 30 degrees of blowdown. Blowdown is not just the degrees of crank rotation its also the area of the port, more area even without more time is still more blowdown. If...

Free ride vs freestyle vs race engine

I guess it all comes down to how much pump pressure you make, and how long it takes to get to that pressure when the throttle is wacked open from low rpm. Thats where people form an opinion if the motor has strong low to mid or pulls great up top. motor guys tend to develop their engines with...

Free ride vs freestyle vs race engine

Cool conversation. I agree you can change powerband characteristics dramatically with pipe design. But high port timing is a necessary evil when it comes to rpm. And it comes with compromises. High exhaust port means shorter powerstroke. High transfer timing means shorter intake stroke. those...

Super Jet r&d "rev" pipe water line diagram

The diagram above is incorrect. By connecting B to to F, E and G you are connecting the water injection points to the cooling jacket. This will cause the pipe to run wet at all times. Not good. You could run it that way if you dont have water injection but the pipe wont dry out and rev. It would...
