Is it possible you have the wrong cable or it is not symmetric? It's possible they put in a steering cable instead of a trim cable?

I do 3D print tools for stuff like that. Not sure if you have ever considered it, but it's nicer than wood. You can easily print a custom radius or a complexed curve. I used Fusion 360 and a XYZ Davinci Pro 1.0 printer.

One thing I have not once seen in a waterlogged foam thread is the before and after weights. The composite added to repair what was done by cutting out the tray is not weightless.
